This pisses me off. That is all. There are even records of the early Church's financial dealings respecting donations to the poor etc. (in the New Testament). Remember, the one Judas was so ticked off about? Anyway, I hate paying tithing... Fuck it.

Interesting. Particularly the last one. In some respects, I think we are blowing this way out of proportion...

If an average RM is worth 18 tithe payers, how many tithepayers is an RM worth who leaves at age 18 vs. age 19? Sadly, this is not a joke :(

Isn't it about time you changed your name, now that Coke is no longer "forbidden"? (Apparently it NEVER really was forbidden after all!) :)

If the history is off limits, and intellectual disagreements are unacceptable, what power or influence would be sufficient to legitimately disagree with the Church? There isn't one, apparently. I imagine that even if God Him/Her/Itself appeared at Gen Con to disabuse Mormons of their notions, the leadership would simply submit that God had been led astray and that the Church membership is not

This criticism was leveled at another LDS artist (John McNaughton--Google his work, b/c his website appears to be down...): 'the painting is “typical propaganda art, drop-dead obvious in message” and “visually dead as a doornail.”' That is why I say Liz isn't artistic. To everyone who said that they will give it a go: use your artistic license. I would definitely paint his wives

I remember someone on here the other day saying something about how if they were prophet they would eliminate Sunday School or something. Sunday School? Eliminate the whole damn service. I remember when I was TBM there were rumours about how circumstances would force Church members to hold their own meetings at home at some point in the future. Hence the need for preparatory instruction over t

Sadly, it isn't even a crossword puzzle. It is more properly a word roundup or word search. Silly and stupid. Color the outfit of the prophet or other speaker to match what they are wearing? F*** it.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I've heard some interesting stories about Del P from his kids while I was at BYU... Glad you have at least some happy memories from the Morg!

God "permits" agency (even though His religious injunctions deny it). TBM parents don't afford their children the same degree of agency permitted by God (they coerce and brainwash into religious faith, for one). God, despite His claims, returns stones and serpents for prayers instead of the promised loaves and fishes. Most parents, TBM included, try their best to meet the needs

Like I said, not artistic, is she? But seriously, wouldn't more accurate portrayals of Mormon history and beliefs be awesome? A triptych of the multiple versions of Vision the First. Moroni's nocturnal visits (I know Liz painted one, but it sucks). Joseph and all of his wives (no, that isn't his daughter--she's his wife, too!). Joseph as a Free Mason. A Second Anointing painti

It would be spectacular if someone really talented painted a large portrait of Joseph with all of his wives (for sake of continuity, let's just leave it at those to whom he is sealed on FamilySearch.com for a start). Perhaps it could be done a la the Last Supper with Emma taking Judas' role (she did, in many ways, betray him RE polygamy after all!). I think this would be great to post on FB/Pi

link: http://www.lds.org/ensign/2012/10/the-voice-of-the-people?lang=eng This would be a lot less objectionable, and obviously a ploy, if they didn't come out with this right before a big election in which the Golden Boy is running. Again. If civic participation and duty is so important, why serve foreign missions? Why not make this emphasis every Sunday instead of a couple of times righ

the Church just sent young peope out to actually do meaningful service. There would be no leadership structure, per se. And they would be encouraged to think outside of the Mormon box (kind of like the Amish thing where the kids go off and experience worldly pleasures...)--missionaries could participate, tastefully, in whatever they wanted. How cool would that be? I think my mission would have be

We are taught that some experiences are so sacred, they must not be shared (unless at the behest of the Spirit etc.). I suppose that Joseph's First Vision wasn't that sacred. Neither were the rest of his visions, visitations, revelations, etc. I conclude this because he shared extensively about them. However, modern apostles (who have all supposedly seen the Christ and are thus His special

Tom, I was speaking to a coworker yesterday at work who admitted to participating in campaigns with Anonymous (internet forum which attacks, electronically, ne'er-do-wells). I don't necessarily support or condone their actions. However, I have been thinking about how to inject your experience into the campaign dialogue and I think that they could be a useful resource (Google Anonymous, 4cha

Why anyone feels the spirit (particularly when raised in a belief system from birth or childhood): Children and some people in duress often perceive parents and other authority figures (including missionaries) as essentially unfallable and trustworthy (often despite ample evidence to the contrary). Agreed. Stay out. Stay out of my bedroom. Stay out of my underwear drawer. And sure as hell stay out of my bed. Garments are the most hideous inventions. Why would they do it to themselves (much less the rest of us)?

Please feel free to comment, everyone! Forestpal specifically cited several things including low self-esteem, shame, bigotry, etc. that required deliberate work to repair and eliminate as necessary (my words). Thanks!

why would they follow a bishop who over eats, lies, and/or treats members of their family poorly? Of the examples I've given, a bishop who over eats is the only one visibly sinning (by treating his body-temple poorly). We know that doing so negatively impacts reception of revelation. So why would a TBM follow his counsel? If other sins were so visible in their affects (say masturbating le

You do not have free will. All decisions are made for you (you can't do this, eat that, drink that, look at this, think about that, study this, research that, talk to those people). Free will is a myth in the Church. If you make decisions contrary to those made for you you are unworthy and need to repent.
