In my neighborhood (SLC), are the Oklands (father and one son live a few blocks apart). They built most of city creek, do temples and church buildings....they are super mo and have a very successful (largest in the state) company. I would say that they have an interest in being as into the church as possible. Another neighbor (very successful) does custom furniture and sells most of his high en

No, but I was under Bay who was just before Washburn. I was there from '85 - '87. I served in all leadership positions in the mission (for what it is worth). Washburn was from Page, I believe...I never got to that part of the mission. I am still close and friends with one companion (we were ZL's together for 5 months). He is down to earth and has been a great friend for almost 30 years.

interesting article with excerpt: “To have one’s calling and election made sure is to be sealed up unto eternal life; it is to have the unconditional guarantee of exaltation in the highest heaven of the celestial world; it is to receive the assurance of godhood; it is, in effect, to have the day of judgment advanced, so that an inheritance of all the glory and honor of the Father’s kingdom

“I admire men and women who have developed the questing spirit, who are unafraid of new ideas as stepping stones to progress. We should, of course, respect the opinions of others, but we should also be unafraid to dissent–if we are informed. Thoughts and expressions compete in the marketplace of thought, and in that competition truth emerges triumphant. Only error fears freedom of expressionâ

yes. And then they made me travel from Alberta, Canada to SLC in order to have an interview with a GA to determine if I was "worthy" to go on a mission. (I had to confess...in detail....to my bishop, SP <who was my parent's best friend from BYU> and then a GA). It was horrific on every level. My sin...I had a girlfriend for 3 years; she was Catholic and I was MORmON. We were c

Steve, I'm interested in your input and vantage point. The first, to my knowledge, media outlet break of the Monson summons was the USA Today and the article written by Dennis Wagner, who "...also reports for The Arizona Republic". The article, while taking both sides of the story (and missing some critical facts; Tom is not an exmo, he has purposely not resigned, so that he ca

only you can decide. Best advice I ever receive, after my divorce 19 years ago. "Do the right things, for the right reasons..not for the expected results or outcomes...doing right has it's own rewards". The guy wasn't mormon; it still is the best counsel and guidance I have ever received. As a director of over 150 people, I still utilize this advice, daily. Please, take it

I've met Tom. Those who deride him do so in ignorance. This man has sacrificed EVERYTHING to be a man on conscience. Shame on those who deride him for their own selfish reasons. Tom OWES us nothing. If he chooses to be a part of this or any ex-mormon community, so be it. If he doesn't.....we still owe him an enormous debt of gratitude.

I travel extensively for work. Due to my airline status, I am generally upgraded to first class for most flights. 5-10% of the time, I am seated in my regularly assigned seat. Such was the case flying back from Portland to SLC this week. Who comes and occupies the middle seat right next to me??? A young man, culminating 36 hours of travel home to Twin Falls, Idaho from Manilla. Before I

@guynoirprivateeye....get a new doctor. The one you have is wildly uninformed of the peer review journal evidence of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. My wife is a PA, and her practice ROUTINELY provides these services. The reason: it is good evidence based medicine, it creates a healthier patient with better outcomes, and can be supported in the literature. I suggest you grab

I am overwhelmed at these responses. To all, thank you for your bravery in sharing. We are all on the same eventual path. Love now, rememberance afterwards, and knowledge that we all pass to the other side in knowledge, or nothingness; it is universally binding. I have emence respect and adoration for the community gathered here. We disclose and deal with real issues. Peace and thanks to al

start posting some of the whiz-banger type quotes from the the apostle of the LORD (wow, that DB posted that in caps to prove who really has the upper hand). Like Brother Brigham preaching over the pulpit that the law of god for mixing with the "seed of Cain" is death. There are a million of them...let him chew on those.

Admitting that leaders made mistakes is a step. Ok, ya big 15, who fear nothing and stand as Christ's own anointed....let's see how honest and forthright you can be. EXACTLY what have been the mistakes? What is causing people to loose their faith??? If you have the answers, step up before any more have a crisis of "faith", and fail to "doubt their doubts" and fall prey

How would anyone know Elizbeth is a smoker??? Not casting doubts, just want some back up to a claim. BTW, after what that girl went thru....if smoking is her biggest hang up, she is exceptionally strong and balanced and I'd buy her a pack of Camel's, myself. Man, I'd be hooked on smack if I endured 1/2 what she did. My resolution: Elizabeth, where ever you are; I hope you are healthy
