And don't forget women now can pray in GC which was a direct result of a public opinion campaign no less!

I have a lot of concerns because it sounds really cult like to me. I think that it is weird that they aren't aloud to talk about what goes on there. And they go all day and finish at midnight.

I sure wish someone had tried to tell me before I wasted 30 odd years in it. There is a tiny chance someone might be open to the discussion. However after they show no interest or it starts to harm your relationship I would not try any more.

I hope this issue highlights what a ridiculous church this is to the rest of the world.

Told our home teachers that they were welcome to come by as neighbors and friends and say hello, but we didn't want a message. NEVER saw them again.

We live in SLC and Mormons are the minority in our neighborhood. There is a great counter culture here, lots of coffee shops, brew pubs, out door concerts etc. We go to Craft Sabbath at the Main SLC library every first Sunday of the month with our kids. We go to all the Twilight Concerts at Pioneer Park. You can see some awesome bands and they sell beer which everyone is drinking. We honestly don

Your presence here was invaluable to me when I left. Your book, research, insights had a huge impact on me and were a part of the reason I left. You once made an excellent post here about the difference between “wanting to believe” and “wanting to know the truth.” It helped me understand and make peace with my family. I hope that you will check in once in awhile for our sake. And

All I remember about him is that he was obsessed with rules and following them to the letter. I never saw him show any real concern for people, just rules.

My dad hit me with the same thing- best place to raise kids blah blah blah. Well mine are turning out great with no religion whatsoever. It is so sad to see such smart men brainwashed with such crap.

Yep, worked for us too. My husband figured it out first. Slowly one small observation, question, fact at a time and I followed him out a few years later. The books, "In Sacred Loneliness" and "Emma, Mormon Enigma" are great places to start.

Someone gave me a book by John Lund. In it he claims pre-Columbina horse bones have been found in South America. I tracked the statement to DP, and then to a 19th century archeology expedition. It it there was a comment on rodents tunneling and messing up the layers of the excavation. DP took this completely out of context and said that the horse bones really belonged to a different layer, thus t

Your friend can't even discuss that fact that you're leaving the church! It's like Satan is going to grab him right through the computer screen. How pathetic is that?

Everyone was so friendly, and we had a great time. It made me miss the social aspect of the church. It also made me sad to see so many good people scammed by a fraudulent church.

So many of us have made this painful journey. There is a lot of combined wisdom here. Make sure you don't miss RPackham's comment and link to his site. He is an ex-Mormon treasure!

My husband figured it out first. He was very cautious with this new knowledge and quite cleverly started asking me simple questions. He would say something like, “Did you know that there were no horses in the Americas before the Spanish. I wonder what the Nephites were riding when it mentions horses in the Book of Mormon?” I would respond with some lame answer and he would never turn it into

I would use my time to give a testimony on the power of finding truth or living an authentic live etc... not "anti-Mormon" just not what they consider a real testimony.

In the city the population of Mormons is very low, like 35%. I meet exmos all the time- at coffee shops, in the PTA, neighbors etc... and we all have this instant bond. There is a huge counter culture that openly displays itself because of the huge Mormon influence around us. There are great bars, clubs, coffee shops and music venues that go the extra mile countering the LDS influence. S
