I have always assumed that the garment business was a profitable one for the church. they are such cheap sh*t but expensive for what you get. Does anyone actually have any hard facts about where these are made and what the profit margin is on them?

From what I understand of the story, she had sex with an 18 year old, which is legal, and she woke up to a 16 year old having sex with her. 16 is the age of consent in that state, so there is no rape.

I don't know how to post an image, but I was throwing out some papers and I saw the outline for teachers from a ward conference thing. (My TMB spouse teaches every Sunday). I thought the comment about Packer basically sums it up (yet again). The emphasis is in the original. II. We are to teach DOCTRINE 1. Packer: Historians idolize truth 2. What is your

Holland says that questions first started to arise in Mormonism when Joseph Smith as a teenage boy first reported the first vision in Palmayra. Is that historically true? Did Joseph actually publically report the first vision when it supposedly happened? I thought it was much later.

I'm non-believing (for last three years), semi-active, married to a TBM, navigating our relationship and raising children. I haven't "come out" to anyone expressly other than my spouse, although all who REALLY know me (which are not many in my ward), know I'm not on board with everything, don't wear Gs, have heard my social liberalism, etc. I have been a teacher in our ward since its

I'm sure this has been hashed and rehashed before, but I don't see anything but sexism as the reason for the ex'ing of Kate while letting John go along and do his thing without any church discipline. John has influenced WAY more people away from the church than Kate ever did.

Wow. Thanks so much for sharing that story and all the details. That must have been so surreal! I'll be waiting anxiously for an update on how they are processing this -- and the other essays that they will be reading. (Does you FIL know about the rock in the hat?)

Okay, but did you enter the practice based on religious beliefs? What is your religious belief about polygamy?

You need to file something (divorce or legal separation) in order to have any protection. If she leaves for Utah with the children while still married and no divorce or legal separation on file, you're pretty much screwed, especially if she then files for divorce in Utah. Usually, in a divorce, a parent can't leave the state for good unless some highly unusual circumstances and it's in the best

Most can't be screened unless you do an amnio, which risks miscarriage. All preganancies undergo ultrasound around the halfway mark, in which abnormalities are looked for.

Good advice. Whatever you do, don't do it while Zach is at school and tell him later. My parents did that and I've always felt deprived of the ability to say goodbye and couldn't understand why they wouldn't have even given me a voice. Also, a good friend of mine just had the vet visit and euthanize her dog in is own surroundings, with everyone holding him and getting to say goodbye. They had

I lost interest in the back and forth pretty quickly. Agree or disagree, they both kept things fairly respectful on subjects that easily become quite contentious. However, my problem is that Brian Hales asked that the email exchange not be put in the public forum, and yet, Dan Vogel chose to continue to engage and then not honor that request. Of course, he has every "right" to do with

Wow. I cannot believe what your sister did to you and the family! You very understandably feel rage. Having been in the position before, planning a funeral and having it be a reflection of who the deceased was and the love of those left behind is an important part of the grieving process. It's your chance to declare to the world what a wonderful person your brother was; it's your chance to sa

Seriously Steve, I don't understand the glee you take in creating an argument where there is none. There was no gotcha to be had in whywait's post and you made a whole lot of nothing into a big argument about your own interpretation of it. I thought the point of his post was absolutely clear: It is DISGUSTING that the NFL did not take the appropriate action the first time after KNOWING that he

I don't get why you and your ex made such big decisions when you only thought you "might" be pregnant. These days, you can find out if your pregnant within 9 days of conception with a drug store test. For you guys out there, that is 5 days before you even miss a period. If you've missed a period, then every test out there will pick it up by now. Honestly, it seems a bit fishy to

If you do IVF, the embryo can be tested for the genetic condition and only those embryos that don't have it can be transferred into your wife's uterus. Happens every day in fertility clinics for the very reasons you've expressed. This way, you don't have to terminate a pregnancy, beause you already know that the child lacks the genetic condition.

Who believes the church's response that that the list of speakers has not been finalized (a mere two weeks before the event????) and that they were DEFINITELY planning to have a woman speaker? They're scrambling to find a token woman speaker one right now willing to put something together by the 9th.

My primary issue with this whole debate is that the policy changes that are advocated because of climate change (which have serious economic impact on many) have not been shown to help stop or halt the climate change.
