"We understand that from time to time Church members will have questions about Church doctrine, history, or practice. Members are always free to ask such questions and earnestly seek greater understanding." That is such a load of crap. Sure, one can ask questions as long as they are "faith promoting," behind closed doors with a leader, or in the proper time, place and mann

Church leaders state: “Apostasy is repeatedly acting in clear, open, and deliberate public opposition to the Church or its faithful leaders, or persisting, after receiving counsel, in teaching false doctrine.” Perhaps apostasy could also be defined as, telling half-truths, whitewashing history, lying for the lord, inducing guilt, fear, and shame, acting in exclusivity, influence peddlin

A friend of mine will shut down our conversation by saying she doesn't want to "argue." This is after she starts a discussion and I state my point of view. I think this is under the guise of avoiding uncomfortable opinions and/or facts she doesn't want to discuss. I believe she could participate in a civil discussion about religion (sometimes politics) and listen to other viewpoints wi

Especially if it doesn't affect anyone else but the believer? In some cases it seems people are bothered if they can't sway someone else to agree with a viewpoint. I find this interesting...and also why people choose to follow others just on their word, like the missionaries.

"Regardless of the court decision, the Church remains irrevocably committed to strengthening traditional marriage between a man and a woman..." So how does gay marriage diminish traditional marriage in any way???

Recently, a Mormon barried his testimonky to me and I told him I didn't believe him and I wasn't buying what he was trying to sell. This seemed to shut him up and leave him powerless. Yeah!

If you decide to not go on a mission and let the chips fall where they may resulting in your supposed friends and family being punitive towards you, remember living well is the best revenge.

From one who used to be spineless, it's worth being true to yourself and live according to who you are and what you want to be. Eventually, you'll have to face others anyway -- do it now for your own peace of mind and let the chips fall where they may. It's your life!

What makes you suppose I was referring to a "deputy marshal" and not a "US Marshal?" Also, many sheriffs in large agencies have an "undersheriff" along with "chief deputies" and "deputy sheriffs."

judyblue, you make a great point about how professionals earn their titles through years of study, dedication and hard work vs the limited special training, or schooling, or experience of a bishop. judyblue, et al, Thanks for sharing your viewpoints.

Nice, the terms and titles of a relationship are mutually defined.

I haven’t participated in Mormonism for many years, which includes not accepting the bishop as an authority figure in my life, although I can still refer to him as “bishop” because that’s his title in the Morg., or even a missionary by the term “elder.” Just the same, I’ll refer to a Catholic father as “father” or “padre,” a physician as “doctor,” a US Marshal as “mar

Perhaps it's damage control to remedy statements from earlier leaders, such as, "a testimony comes in the bearing of it."

I think that what he said about faith and belief applies to any personal belief system or organized religion, not just TSCC.

Hopefully TSCC will listen to its members about other vitals issues like being able to marry outside of the temple and have a sealing ceremony immediately afterwards.

I think its interesting that it's necessary for a priesthood holder to be at young women's camp. So why is not having the priesthood in a single parent (female) home not just as important?

I think when Monson & Packer die then there will be some major changes in TSCC. Monson and Packer are holding things up.

Currently a believer in God, inactive, unorthodox, Non-believer in TSCC, apostate. Haven't participated in TSCC for over twelve years. Have been reading RFM since the late 90's. Currently considering

My uneducated guess is that the city creek mall, including land, condos, buildings, etc. is worth less money than temple square, COB, JS Memorial Building and the land in between. I suppose these properties would value at approx 10 Billion altogether. Any TBM's who read this site or current/former church employees make an educated estimate?
