However, it is a cult, and therefore denouncing it is an important, if not necessary step.

Exactly. Just leave and ignore it.

I don’t think anyone’s putting a timeline on it. It’s simply when you know, you leave. Period. That’s moral integrity and if a person chooses to ignore that or sweep it under the rug, that person, if he/she has a conscience, will suffer a personal hell on earth.

Exactly. Thanks for saving this. Moral integrity mostly is a personal thing. The feelings of others are never an excuse for failing to live with moral integrity.

Thanks for posting it. This is very important to note and document. No, this world isn’t friendly to women, but that is a side issue. On this forum, we can feel free to focus on the lies and hypocrisy you brought to our attention without the need to equivocate.

To a point, I get what you’re saying. Yet if a person stays in and doesn’t believe, that is a big problem. It’s about personal integrity. If someone has children, it’s a pathetic legacy to hand to them. Also, it suggests that such a person is a coward. It’s a blot on their life that can be avoided by doing the right thing.

Yes, I agree. There is passive resistance going on here.

I tend to agree about the scoundrels thing, only know that like monarchies in the past hired great musicians, architects, artists, tradespeople, etc., so do churches today in the case of musicians, and tradespeople. The artisans hired aren’t corrupt even if the organization may be.

That’s exactly right. It’s hard to be a first-rate human being and in a cult at the same time.

No, they won’t do it. They don’t want to call the world’s attention to their history anymore.

I‘ve noticed over the years that people stuck in the cult really have nothing original to say. If they‘re on missions, their reports are empty of anything meaningful. They simply pass around links and memes. It‘s a shame.

Strikes me that instead of anti-vax paranoia, people could choose to get a hobby, or find a role to serve in the community. Just saying.

If they have moral courage, they will “encounter the problematic nature of the truth claims of the church.” If they have no moral courage, then they’ll be just fine remaining in their fakey-fakey life. To each their own.

Mormonism influences fearful people to disrespect and diminish good, solid people while they praise fakes and conmen. This is a tragedy. That’s why good principled people who leave the cult must be prepared for being attacked and put down even in the wake of taking the most courageous steps of their life.

All I get from it is the opportunity to study why it’s so difficult for some people to completely repudiate something that is so obviously wrong. Frankly, I prefer reading books about people who transcend their past, and display moral courage. But that’s just me. Again, please, someone correct me.

I guess the only action that impresses me is complete repudiation of it all. Again, I will consider an argument to the contrary.

Didn’t like Spanish speakers? That sounds very sad. Another reason why I wouldn’t read the book about him. Someone please correct me.

I find that volunteering, walking, and chatting with close friends makes all the difference in the world.

Being an influencer will be a “career” that will be looked down upon in the future as one of the relics of our era of superficial values. It will never enjoy the timeless respect that a craftsman, a teacher, a police officer, or a member of the military enjoys.

Mockery of the authentic is rife in Mormonism. To a lesser extent, you see it with lifelong suburbanites who buy land in the country and “become farmers” in retirement. You simply can’t buy your way into authenticity.

There’s a nice Youtube video which Jackson Browne did for the BBC in which he explains a little about what he meant with that song. Moral courage is number one. Without it, we shame everything about ourselves.

Some people base their existence on getting and maintaining homes like that. Important fact to note.

I had a carpet cleaning business for 18 years. No matter how big the house, a family lived in just a small portion of it. How did I know? Wear patterns and dirty carpets don’t lie. This sort of conspicuous consumption really turned me off about Mormon culture. So I guess I could say it had a good effect on me. Nudged me towards a life of spiritual and intellectual richness instead.
