Ouch. Have you never argued with anyone on your cell phone? There's nothing particularly immature about that (anymore than for any other person). Buying groceries at the grocery store is certainly not an immature thing to do.

How can bearing false witness not be #2? It's one thing to have sex with your neighbor's wife. It's another thing to spread a rumor that your neighbor's wife is having an affair with someone. I get all this is subjective, but this seems pretty cut & dried to me.

Timewave Zero sure didn't pan out. For all his advocacy of psychedelics, they didn't make him any more enlightened than anybody else. He definitely had a way with words.

Yeah, I can tell there's a lot going on, but here's what the OP said: "I think posters who post >2 posts here should be required to post a public synopsis of the Mormon history, including how long they were a member or how long effected by ChurchCo associations, specifically telling the essentials of their contacts with ChurchCo, family & other." I think that's wrong. Also

I can tell you this: If RfM implements some kind of Shibboleth, I'm out.

Them removing boyd k packer's little factory talk from the church website. I said something like, "why aren't we celebrating this?" And then you pointed out it was just PR, that they'll keep shaming boys. Totally makes sense.

You'd responded to me on a now-closed thread, and I wanted to let you know 1) I appreciated the response, and 2) I totally get what you're saying. It's interesting now in hindsight to consider all the things the church has done over the last few years that on the surface seemed like positive progress, but upon closer inspection were purely for public relations-related reasons and the underlyin

Got it. But isn't this an indication that they're moving toward completely eliminating the practice? In 2019, nothing stays secret for long. Only a matter of time until a documentary comes out with a whole bunch of bishops asking a whole bunch of kids inappropriate questions.

I used to think that way, too. Totally understand your perspective. It can get old. I think it's the tribal aspect of the prayer thing that still rubs me wrong. But, I do appreciate the social cohesion apparent in those rituals and I don't mind, actually I enjoy, being outside the tribe.

Could be solved with just having another board (maybe replace the bio board) with an off-topic area. Then folks who want to talk about non-recovery stuff can, if they want, and folks who only want to talk about recovery-related topics can stick to the original area.

Jordan makes a good point that you didn't address, summer. If a white temple worker would receive the same disciplinary action for growing their hair long, then this is simply not racism. Fuddy-duddyism, maybe. We can't attribute to racism every undesirable thing that happens to a minority.

Should have had a trigger warning on this thread. Now I have an annoying LDS hymn stuck in my head. Don't worry, I won't name it to spare you the same fate.

This post reminds of the episode of the Sopranos when Meadow's roommate (totally sheltered, never been in a city, naive to the max) is exposed to NYC for the first time. She absolutely loses it. You are like Meadow's roommate. You need perspective. We are an amazing species. 99.99% of species on this planet have gone extinct with no help from us whatsoever, yet we've allocated billions

Thanks, Lot's Wife :) I'm surprised by how much that means to me. I'm doing my best to become an anti-fragile person. Good critiques of my thoughts don't stay good critiques because they become my new opinions. Your good critiques of my thoughts have become my new opinions. Maybe one day I'll give you a good one and change your mind on something. I get the feeling I have a long way to go

<<The U.S. has never not been a multicultural and multilingual country.>> <<<Actually, it always has been multicultural and multilingual.>>> Those 2 statements are the same. You were agreeing with me. <<<No need to suggest it, it's a fact.>>> Thanks! I learned something :)

Unless they're missionaries, then their entire sales pitch falls apart because there's no strawmen for them to tear down. When a mormon missionary has to start with, "how do you define god?" they go into full computer crash mode.

18. Didn't go on a mission, had been more or less self-sufficient through high school. Supportive parents who taught me correct principles but didn't micro-manage my eternal progression. I have friends who still live with their parents and have no intention of moving out any time soon. I just don't understand it. If you're drinking age and still live with your parents, I have some questio

No, but when performing a heart transplant there better be something better to replace it with or the patient will die. For people who see religion as cancer, there's nothing to replace it with. For people who see religion as an evolved survival mechanism, there should be something better to replace it. It's all in your perspective, I think.

The U.S. has never not been a multicultural and multilingual country. Are you suggesting we don't have an official national language? Or just that it shouldn't be English? I'm asking in reference to your statement: "Pretending that the US should only be English speaking is ridiculous, ignorant and short-sighted." If what you mean by that is that no one should be pressured to o

Hmmm. I guess I should take a deep breath and recognize I'm on a recovery from mormonism website, but celebrating ANYONE being brutally murdered by a mob just hits me wrong. I don't like it.
