Tiercy is a good person. It's a shame what happened to her. She's done a few podcast episodes where she talks about her life. I don't remember the names, but they aren't too hard to find.

I saw the movie on Saturday. I wouldn't say I "enjoyed" it, because the content is very disheartening, but it seemed well-done. No mention of Mormonism or Utah. After the credits, they had a special message. If you wanted to, you could buy a ticket for someone who might not be able to afford to see the movie. They really want to spread the word and put an end to human trafficki

In case anyone is wondering... Utah Code 76-10-1227 1(b) says it's indecent to display: "female breast below a point immediately above the top of the areola" So, if you want to enforce the law...it's obviously important to know where someone's areolas start.

Has anyone considered just moving the Bible to the "fiction" section? Maybe that would work.

As someone who has dealt with chronic depression their entire life, I don't even need to read that article to know it is total nonsense. What do you need to be happy..? Neurotransmitters, that's what. Maybe they meant it's important to have a "relationship" with dopamine and serotonin?

According to D&C 77, the official position of the LDS church is that the earth has a 7,000 year temporal existence. They just can't say that anymore...because it's so stupid.

"It's not our fault you didn't know about our special gun laws. The information was out there the whole time." "It's not our fault you didn't know about the different First Vision accounts. The information was out there the whole time." At least the church is consistent, right?

A visitor (especially from another state) would have no way to know. The way the law is written, a church has to register with the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification and then give notice. The notice can be done in four different ways: -Direct communication (i.e. the bishop tells you) -Reading something over the pulpit -Putting up a sign or... -Putting a legal notice in

It seems to me that religious dietary restrictions fall into basically two categories: The Obvious and The Arbitrary. Obvious examples would be things like, "don't drink seawater" or "don't get addicted to meth." You don't really need to tell people those kinds of things...they are obvious. The arbitrary ones we are already familiar with. "Don't eat pork" or

The church actually got special legislation passed that lets them ban guns WITHOUT having to put up any of those unattractive signs (here in Utah, anyway).

I'll tell you why they made the Nazca lines... If you can tell me why they ruin perfectly good mountains all over Utah with giant concrete letters.

Exactly. The church can't hang onto young people. If you want to keep people in the church, you need a bogeyman to make the outside world look scary. Young people seem to realize the church IS the bogeyman.

George Bernard Shaw said, "Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig likes it." That's what I see happening both in the church and politically, when it comes to the younger generations. They aren't going to wrestle with the pigs. A lot of my younger friends just live together, sometimes they eventually get married, sometimes not. Old people in government can call i

Since you mentioned curelom... Imagine that you are Joseph Smith (with a 4th grade education) and you are writing stories...like a boy with a 4th grade education. Things I thought were cool in 4th grade: Egypt (especially Mummies) Secret codes Dinosaurs Bigfoot Outer Space Cowboys & Indians Pirates Is it really any wonder that Joseph wrote the things he did? As an adult,

Don't forget one of the least-emphasized principles of the Gospel... What things are called in other languages! For example: Shinehah, which is the sun Kokob, which is star Olea, which is the moon Kokaubeam, which signifies stars, or all the great lights, which were in the firmament of heaven. Isn't that fantastic! Of course, it leads to a little bit of confusion when you have

Slightly off topic... Mormon leaders are obsessed with SEX, but they don't want YOU to be. So they teach that the "original sin" wasn't sexual. That leaves a pretty obvious plot hole. Elohim (to Jehovah): "Let's go see what Adam and Eve are doing..." Lucifer: "Hey, kids! GOD is coming. He's going to know you've been EATING APPLES!" Adam: "Oh, no

Don't forget that Nephi seems to have invented the AUTOBIOGRAPHY. Once you've done that...inventing a codex is a piece of cake. (For all we know, Nephi also invented cake.)

If I ever get the chance to spit in the face of a general authority... (metaphorically, of course. I'm not condoning violence.) the FIRST time it will be because of the sexual abuse coverups the SECOND time will be because they tell poor, struggling families to pay tithing EVEN when they can't afford to feed their children And then they just throw that tithing on a giant pile of money the

Are elections REALLY different in Oklahoma? I wasn't aware that becoming governor meant that you now OWN every square inch of the state. Or, if we're just talking nonsense now... I would like to OFFICIALLY dedicate all ZEBRAS to the MOON And consecrate my mom's POTATO SALAD to the society of LEPRECHAUNS.

We knew that, too. Lots of dudes got sealed to him after he was killed. It was very matter-of-fact...polygamy had to be "restored", just like everything else. I don't think the women were very excited about it, but they didn't complain much. (This was in Davis County. Our ward was a lot of old farmers.)

I wonder when Joseph's polygamy became a secret? I'm not particularly old (54), but I can remember polygamy being discussed frequently when I was growing up. In fact, older members would use the phrase, "When they bring back polygamy." We all knew it was true and we were just waiting for the government to quit oppressing us so we could practice it.

The explanation is that it's VERY difficult to create a fictional culture. Even talented authors accidentally include things that shouldn't be there...or leave out things that should.

Do they just stuff all the little pieces of paper into one of those white zippered bags? Or, do they transfer the names to a normal sheet of paper and make a copy for each bag? How would you know which bag your name got put into? What if your bag was in a room they didn't use that day... ...and then you died?

I happened to be at my mom's house while General Conference was on and I saw the church's new video about Jesus in America. If you haven't seen it, it's basically a live-action version of the old Arnold Frieberg painting from Nephi 11. Jesus comes down out of the sky and hangs out with all the people at the temple. (As far as I could tell, there is no mention of how many people Jesus had jus

When I first lost my belief in the afterlife, I spent several months worrying that I might die unexpectedly. After all, I didn't have guardian angels watching over me anymore. I started being more careful while driving or doing things that could be dangerous. The pressure was on ME now. It may not have anything to do with this poor seminary teacher, but did anyone else notice that being a

Can you believe they actually put in the rules that the same dress could be appropriate on one person, but inappropriate on another? Really??
