My vote goes to The Smile Train. (google it) 100% of your donation goes to performing life changing operations for children born with cleft palate/hare lip in 3d world countries. All of their advertising is funded by a private donor. The surgeries are provided free to the children.

Just a thought here: assuming she has also gone to the doctor My daughter was very ill for almost 10 years. Doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong and tried treating her for every known auto immune thing you could think of. She kept getting worse. They tested her for food allergies and she came up negative. (hint. they were wrong) After she almost died from the prescription meds, g

Run like He!! I was in your position except we had been together several years longer than you and your S/O before we got married. The day after we said our I DO's, he announced he was going to "get serious about my religion and get my temple reccommend." At that time, I knew very little about Mormonism. It completely changed him for the worse. Here's how to find out what you n

So "the very elect could be deceived by the enemy of truth"... Seems to me that would be the ones who believe the LDS teachings. Almost everything about the Mormon faith teaches the members to lie. "milk before meat" = weasle words for "we have no plans to tell you information that you might actually need to make an informed decision about joining our group"

The basic dishonesty required to be/remain a Mormon. ie: A testimony is often gained by the bearing of it. (doublespeak for "If you don't know, just lie about it til you do know" and be sure to ignore the 9th commandment, "Thou SHALT NOT bear false witness." It's not lying if it is Lying for the Lord. (Yeah, right! Go look up Jeremiah 48:10 which says, basically,

I'm no Hebrew scholar either, but here is an interesting tidbit. D&C 110:12, 13, Joseph (supposedly) is having all these visions of prophets. In vs 12, Elias appears to him and "commits the dispensation of the gospel of Abraham saying that in us and our seed all generations after us should be blessed." VS 13 After this vision had closed, another great and glorious vision

Gather round for the ultimate noodle upgrade Instead of water for the noodles, use a 6 oz can of pineapple juice with a couple or 3 tablespoons of (your choice) Yoshida original or any other stir fry sauce. Add one tsp peanut butter and a few shakes of pizza spice. Bring those ingredents to boiling and pour over the noodles. Let them soak for about 3 minutes while you raid the fridge for in

My daughter went thru something similiar.... She became quite ill and was "diagnosed" with every type of auto-immune disease for several years. She was tested for allergies, etc and came back negative. Over a 10 year period, she almost died several times and ran up a huge medical bill. Finally, as a last hope, she tried to cure herself. At this point, she was on the painkille

In the United States of America, no one can force anyone else to use any body part to sustain someone else's life. i.e. If you need a transfusion, I can voluntarily give blood. But! You can't demand that I give blood. Same with kidneys, livers, etc. And it just so happens that even if you are the only one who can sustain the life of someone else, no one can force you to do it. Most

So how old are you and how long have you been married? People change over time.... I never wanted children and neither did my (now ex) husband. But we got caught when I was mid thirties. We had one child. She is amazing. I raised her exactly the opposite of the way I was raised. by then, I has grown up. You don't have to repeat the mistakes of the past. Unless the two of you are leaving

There's nothing wrong with not wanting kids. I had my first and only when I was 33. I hadn't planned on any, but DH (now ex) and I proved there is no 100% sure birth control. Being an aunt is nice. So is being a mentor or a big sister, or..... As I was growing up, there were several roll model women in my life that I WISHED were my mother. You could be that for some girl who got short

Maybe you could say something like: You know, Honey, what you said about me being unwilling to do something for my children? Well that's exactly why I need to leave the church. You didn't want me to discuss "things I have learned" about the church and its leaders, but I have found our horrible things that are confirmed by church sources. I would be a bad mother if I allowed my child

I ditto the story from Wideawake. I'm a nevermo who fell in love with a Jack Mormon. He was SO Jack that we lived together for several years first. He smoked, drank occasionally and loved coffee. We had agreed early on: we were both through with marriage forever. Our arrangement worked for us. Then one day, out of the blue, he asked me to marry him. "Why now? Isn't this what w

I'm most comfortable with the Church of God (earthly headquarters Anderson, Ind) Their "doctrine" is that there is no earthly membership. God keeps the records in Heaven. Only you and He actually know if you are a member or not. They provide a place to worship and nice people to fellowship with. Their creed is the Bible and SS classes get quite interesting when people present th

Your trump card might be this: Read the definition of "testimony" out of the dictionary. Tell them they don't have a "testimony" until they can tell you HOW they know what they SAY they know. If they say they know because of a feeling, reply that what they are really saying is they FEEL they know and that doesn't work for you.

Oh Goody! They set their own trap! Ask them where in the BOM it tells about Eternal Marriage. And where it says there should be baptism for the dead. Where in the BOM does it say you have to have a temple reccommend to go to the temple?

For further grins there is always D&C 110 where Joseph is having all sorts of visions of prophets. It's a short read and I forget the verse, but he has a vision of Elias. No sooner had that vision faded when the prophet Elijah appeared on the scene. Wow, huh? Except that in the KJV, Elias and Elijah are the same person. Most other translations don't mention Elias in the N.T. inst

25th anniversary coming up. The best advice I ever got was this: "A marriage is either getting better or getting worse. No relationship ever stays just the same. If your spouse does or says something that you see in a bad way, retaliate by doing something especially nice for them. It may take a few times before they will feel guilty and do something nice for you. Then you respond by

And yet, in the D&C (I forget the exact place...possibly 30:10?) Jesus is quoted as saying, "I am Jesus Christ who was crucified for your sins." So, apparently, He didn't think the garden had anything to do with forgiveness of sins...

Be sure to have him work in the quote from Jeremiah 48:10 (IIRC) that says roughly, "Cursed is anyone who does the work of the Lord deceitfully..." And then for good measure have him ask how it is different to "Gain a testimony by the bearing of it" And the commandment, "Thou SHALT NOT bear false witness". ANd wonder out loud why an apostle should say you should

I find it interesting that in John Taylor's eyewitness account, he does not mention who shot first. Given that he would have a Mormon bias, I suspect that means either Joseph or Hyrum fired first. Otherwise, I think Taylor's account would have said something like, "Shots were fired from the crowd and Joseph and Hyrum returned the fire." Don'tcha think?

Mormonism is a "religion" of lies. From the time toddlers are led to the podium to recite whispered promptings that they "know" this is the true church, that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God, etc, when in fact, they don't even understand the meanings of the words.... To the Bishop's interviews as teenagers, when they become trained to lie on purpose to avoid public humil

I watched it from a golf course in north Portland. (with golf nut ex husband.) To see the smoke/ash billowing up in real life was one of the most awesome experiences in my life. It was nothing like what was shown on TV. The difference would be more like comparing lightning with a lightning bug. One of the more amazing things was: it just kept going....and going....and it was so HUGE. T

If the "wine" Jesus drank was non-alcoholic, why did the scribes and pharasees say he was a "winebibber"? We know the "fruit of the vine" that Jesus and the diciples drank at the last supper was alcoholic because: Passover and Easter are celebrated at the same time. The last supper was the Passover celebration. Jerusalem is as far north of the equator as In

How about Prophetic succession? My TBM DH told nevermo me that he KNEW the church was true because (ta da) when a prophet died, the 12 apostles went into a room, shut the door, had a prayer, and because they were guided by the Holy Spirit, (yeah, right) the vote was always unanimous on the very first ballot. It took several years, and finding this site to find out the real story. When H

Why do you think there even WAS a pre-existance? Isn't that in the Book of Abraham?.......which we know was made up! If you believe the Bible, it does not say (in Genesis) that God took a living soul and put it into Adam. It says God breathed the breath of life into Adam and Adam BECAME a living soul.

Don't forget D&C 35:2 IIRC Jesus himself says He was crucified for the remission of your sins. I can't find anywhere in Mormon "scriptures" where He said anything like, "I bled great drops of blood in the garden for the remission of your sins. But, of course, there are plenty of places where Jesus says one thing and the Mormon leaders say the opposite......
