Exerpts from above link; --------------------- For instance, I have said on more than one occasion that Mormonism is objectively less credible than Christianity, because Mormons are committed to believing nearly all the implausible things that Christians believe plus many additional implausible things. It is mathematically true to say that whatever probability one assigns to Jesus’ returnin

I think this issue can be a hard one for many who leave the Church. They indoctrinate you to think that everything is based on the gospel and that your life would be meaningless and totally fall apart without it. I personally felt a moment of great despair when the truth about it all suddenly struck me. It felt to me like everything I was, had suddenly been removed from me. When you totally b

I watched Monson speak to see if he was getting senile. I was curious, given several comments that have been made about him loosing it. He looked as sharp as ever to me. He never was a scholar or a deep thinker, but he remains a very effective story teller which is all I have ever seen from him. Sadly, I don't think Boyd KKK is going to get the chance to destroy the Church. Boyd looks like

Good comments SusieQ#1, tribe definitely applies. Whether or not is a cult, just depends on how you define the word. Here is my definition; Cult; there is someone at the top who knows it is a scam. Religion; that person is dead.

A guy I work with was made a seventy a couple years back. (Kent Richards) They had him speak in general conference right afterwards. I found it hysterically funny to hear him speaking in that sing song, high pitched, wistful, carried away by the spirit voice that they all try to use. He did it almost as well as Richard G. Scott. It was hilarious to hear someone that I knew fairly well on a per

We know that God is managing an extremely large (infinite) number of worlds like ours. We know that what happens on our VERY special earth has a great impact on other worlds. Our earth after all was the one that Jehovah chose to come to. His "infinite" atonement applies to an infinite number of humans on an infinite number of other worlds. So,.... When God makes a major course

Joseph Smith taught that whatever God commands is right. God's purpose is to further the progression of the church, and the church represents his plan to bring about His divine plan. The end always justifies the means. Half truths, outright lying, rewriting Church history, and other "lying for the Lord" is not only OK, it is what he expects of us. The Constitution is a sacred document in

Kolobian is right, it is true and literal until it has been proven false, then it becomes symbolic, metaphorical, or filled with allegorical meaning. Also, it does not mean what it says when it turns out to be evil, immoral, or ridiculous; Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live used to mean what it says. If the Bible was translated correctly from one language to another is not at all the same question of whether or not it is "reliable" Is the Bible reliable history? No Is the Bible a reliable moral guide? No Is the scientific information in the Bible reliable? No Does the Bible reliably predict the future? No If you find something that intelligently shows "relia

Victoria's Secret So the guy was in Victoria's Secret looking to buy something sexy for his lover.... He is holding up a negligee and kind of looking back and forth between the young gorgeous sales girl and the negligee like he is trying to picture her in it. She notices, walks over, and asks him in a sexy voice if he would like her to show him how the negligee will look. He looks at her

I like to casually throw out a line from the Temple Ceremony now and then with a straight face; What is wanted? Return and report. We have sufficient for our needs. Has it a name? ------------------ I learned on this site why the GA's always use their middle initial.... They are trying to be like Jesus H. Christ

In LDS theology "the serpent" who beguiled Eve was not an animal, not a real talking snake, but was Lucifer himself. For doing what he did, "the serpent" was cursed to travel on it's belly and to eat dust all the days of it's life. This seems to apply to snakes, but not to Lucifer. So, what is the connection between Lucifer and the plight of snakes? (which apparently h

What is the difference between INSANITY and RELIGION?? INSANITY is when you believe your hallucinations are real.... RELIGION is when you believe that someone else's hallucinations are real.

Sorry for your very difficult situation. The bright side though, is that you are figuring it out now instead of 30 years down the line like I did. Coming out is a difficult thing, and how and when you do it is not something that others can tell you. My advice is do what is best for you. Not everything about a mission is bad, but I can't imagine being forced to testify (as you are) while knowin

In the mind of a TBM, no possibility exists that the Church is not true, or that you may know damning facts about the Church of which they are not aware. There is just not a compartment in their brain for those possibilities. If they have any experience at all with any of the serious questions, it has only been through exposure to "faith promoting" material in order to gather confir

Moroni lays an egg. If it is not right, a stupor of thought will come over you. I thought I buried them in North America! I'm being replaced by a White Salamander? Identity Crisis... Nephi? or Moroni? Thinking..The first step to apostasy.

It also worked in my case to take it slow. Something I did though while working on my wife was to pay my "tithing" to charitable organizations rather than TSCC. "When you have done it unto one of the least of these, you have done it unto me".. You don't have to donate your tithing at the ward level. It is not unusual when people don't want everyone in the ward to know

My two cents; The person very likely was sincere. The committee is very real, but they do not go after every person who makes a critical comment. Even God himself, gazing into his planet size Urim and Thumum could not even begin to keep up with the number of those types of comments. It really takes quite a bit of very public criticism these days to merit attention from the Danites.
