No. I gave a short overview of the sources for the existence of Jesus here: http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,1866301,1866301#msg-1866301 In short, there are no sources for the existence of Jesus, and that includes the New Testament.

Here are some questions I can think of: 1. Name three things you don't like about the Church. This is very difficult for a cult follower who is indoctrinated that the Church is perfect. 2. Can a non-Mormon be a good person? It would be hard for them to say no to that but they don't really mean it. Follow-up question: what makes them good? What about non-Christians? 3. The Church has ma

A more convenient way would be to create a filter on the word "unsubscribe" and have the mail sent to trash. Assuming that items in your trash folder are stored for a limited period (e.g. 30 days), you can still use the mail address for promotional stuff. Just fish the stuff you want out of the trash folder.

Like I said above, eternity-only sealings are a 21st-century invention. There is no record of a single such sealing, nor of any Mormon from that era making a distinction between "for time & eternity" and "for eternity only". The only distinction they made is the one in D&C 132, the same one that is the only distinction in Mormon theology today, i.e. between a marria

It's basic child protection law (don't know the correct legal lingo). If parents want to harm a child, the state steps in. I thi

I saw a sign a few days ago that goes something like this: If you come here to sell goods or services, or talk about religion, please be aware that you will be charged $25 for my participation in such a conversation. This amount is due in advance. By ringing my door bell, you agree to these terms. I thought that was a hoot.

From what I can find out, the courts are doing what they are supposed to do: watching over the best interests of a child whose parents want to subject him to some quack "therapy" that has no chance in hell of doing anything for the kid than prolong his suffering (if he even makes it to the US alive). I can't fathom the depths of desperation the parents must feel, but it's especially

For the married women, I think there is only evidence for Presendia Huntington and Sylvia Sessions - off the top of my head, I would have to look up what evidence that is, other than Sessions thinking her daughter might have been Smith's - now why would she think that? It's important to realize, however, that the Mormon claim that Smith didn't have sex with his concubines is a ploy to shift th

I just thought of another good reason to be familiar with the Bible: it will help you understand and appreciate the many old church, municipal and university buildings in Europe (should you ever venture over here). The stained glass windows, the stations of the cross, the many, many ornaments and statues, the symbolism - you can either gawk at them like a tourist, or gain a deeper appreciation

As an elective course intended to increase the understanding of Western society and culture, why not? I don't know about English, but the Bible has had quite an impact on German and Dutch, and in this manner still impacts how we speak today. No harm in learning where all those expressions and idioms came from. Some Biblical themes are still relevant as they are mere expressions of the human

When I was TBM, I was always amazed at the power of bearing a testimony, because the other side would invariably stand in silent awe. Of course, now I know they were inwardly rolling their eyes and thinking "It's no use reasoning with this guy"...

On Sunday, I'll be sleeping in, mopping the downstairs floor, helping my wife with her job application, helping our youngest prepare for three tests at school, smoking a cigar while drinking beer (I'm good at multi-tasking like that), watching the F1 race, cooking an elaborate dinner, doing a bit of coding on my hobby project, watching some TV. Since I don't do the Facebook thing or any other

That's why it's a near-death experience, which is just a smoke screen for not-a-death experience at all, or just an experience. It's like a near-accident, which basically is not an accident at all.

In a country like Germany, this shouldn't be news. "First orthodox mosque financed with foreign money opened in Berlin" should make a headline. I suppose it is progress for these Muslims, but not for Germany.
