Didn't you just leave GA? We're leaving GA too. Going to NC in April. Glad you made it safely!

My husband often has nightmares about his ex. He tells me about them all the time. One time, I made the mistake of mentioning her when we were in the sack. Let's just say his sudden reaction proved to me that I have absolutely nothing to worry about.

One nice thing about my husband's military service is that he qualifies for the Post 9/11 GI bill, which is a very generous package for veterans and their families. One or both of us could go back to school for up to three years and the government will help us pay for it. He has 15 years after he retires to take advantage of it. But right now, for me, going back to school seems almost poin

I finished my bachelor's in 1994 with around $10K in debt. I paid on the loan for about a year, then entered the Peace Corps and deferred the payments until I got out in 1997. In 1999, I went to grad school for double master's degrees in social work and public health. After I graduated, I consolidated all my loans for a total debt of about $57K. Thankfully, I managed to get a very good intere

That's Lorna Patterson. She was on Airplane! and the Private Benjamin television series that aired in 1981-82. ETA: I believe she's Jewish. The Osmond with the cute little girl was Wayne. That was his daughter, Amy. She is now a professor at Arizona State University and has four kids of her own with another on the way.

When I first started paying back my student loans, I selected a graduated payment plan that had my payments set very low. That was a blessing at the time, because I was broke when I first got out of school. After a few years, when things weren't as tight, I started voluntarily paying more than the minimum, which allowed me to be paid ahead on my account. My first payment tier just ended after

It's funny, because I was nine years old in 1981 and I remember how "special" shows like this would always come on during the holidays. If it wasn't the Osmonds, it was the Carpenters or some other act. I didn't see this when it originally aired, but it's funny to watch now... The kids all look very well trained and most of the wives look like they're being dutiful... and Marie Osmond'

Wow... those stories are very close, aren't they? Next time someone forwards me one of those story emails, I'm going to think of the LDS church!

When I met my husband, he had just divorced his ex wife and she had custody of their two daughters. He lived on $600 a month, since most of his money went to her for alimony, child support for their two daughters and her son from her first marriage, and the mortgage on the house that she got in the divorce but couldn't pay for. He was seriously broke, but happy to be out of a really bad marriag

I agree that anger is a perfectly normal and useful emotion. I posted this link because I've heard so much about the tragic stories that get passed around in the LDS church. It seems the leadership is really big on object lessons. This one is a particularly moronic one.

Yeah... they will let you finance the startup fee, but the interest rate is no bargain. And remember, you would have to save several thousand dollars in order to break even and recoup your investment on the membership fee. You could spend thousands to join and never buy anything at all.

The odd thing is, DirectBuy used to not do ANY advertising whatsoever. I read the book written by the company's founder, James Gagan, and he very proudly and explicitly stated that he was able to build his company on word of mouth. Then, a few years ago, DirectBuy (which used to be called United Consumer's Club) started doing a lot of advertising. I guess word of mouth wasn't working so well f

It's a scam of epic proportions. I did quite a bit of research on it several years ago. You have to pay a big fee to join, plus a monthly membership fee, but they don't let you see what they're selling until they've got you on the hook. The only people who get anything out of DirectBuy are people who own their own homes and have the money to buy things in bulk. If you can't afford to drop sev

No, I wasn't. The stockpot was priced at $40. I definitely would have noticed if they charged me $160.

I bought my husband what I thought was a Le Creuset stockpot from Cooking.com. When it was delivered, it occurred to me that the box was kind of big, but I didn't open it to see what was inside. My husband opened the box and it turned out Cooking.com didn't send me one stockpot... they sent me one CASE of stockpots. So now we have four stockpots instead of one. :-D I guess he'll be taking

Even if you think the guy who made the Web site is "ignorant about physiology", he's obviously experienced problems and has regrets after having a vasectomy. And since you're not the one living in that man's body, I don't think you or anyone else is qualified to speak about his experience. I think anyone who is considering having surgery of any kind, especially a totally electiv

Actually, "don't do it" might not be talking smack. This site is run by a guy who did experience some problems after he got snipped. I'm not saying I necessarily agree, but he does present a viewpoint that's probably worth considering. http://www.dontfixit.org/

My husband had a vasectomy when he was married to his ex wife, before they converted to Mormonism. He got snipped at her behest because pregnancy was "hard" for her. A few years after he had the vasectomy, their marriage was over. He got his vasectomy reversed after we'd been married two years (11 years after he got snipped). The procedure was done free, courtesy of the military, and

I'm all for not mollycoddling kids, but... She didn't use a drop of hot sauce, it was a big mouthful. She forced him to swish it around and hold it in his mouth while she screamed at him. And it was pretty clear that he doesn't like hot sauce. He was obviously petrified and having to swish it in his mouth was clearly a punishment. When he spit out the hot sauce, it was plain that she didn'
