Hi, I am currently in treatment for leukemia. The symptoms are different for everyone so I would advise you to go to your doctor as you plan to. Please let us know how it turns out. Wishing you the best - Dan

Hey lostutahn, I'm in TN. I am not in a position to provide lodging, etc. should you decide to leave your mission, but I have friends in the area and most of the bordering states that can help if needed. Good luck, and please come back here and let us know how you are doing!

Someone once linked to a particular blog here by a stay at home mom who was Mormon. I remember reading it and thinking "typical Mormon" not much to see. Anyway, one of my cousins has been asking me questions that have let me know that she is having doubts about the church. Today my cousin sent me the link to the blog because this woman who once seemed to be ultra-TBM just "came out

I recently posted here about how my cancer has returned. http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,842297,842297 My treatment will require a bone marrow transplant, in which my bone marrow will be destroyed and replaced with a donor’s healthy marrow. Unfortunately, none of my siblings are a match so I must turn to the national registry to find a donor. I encourage anyone who is able to join

It's nice to know you truly understand. I'm trying to remember that I really am lucky to have access to the treatment and I do have a supportive family. Thank you, Mia.

Thank you, I'm always glad to hear of someone winning their fight with cancer! I also have leukemia. I hate that I was so close to my 5 year mark and have to start over again, but it is what it is. Congratulations to your friend, I have hope.

Mnemonic - thank you for your advice. I had not considered what options my school will have for a student in this situation. I wasn't clear when I said delay treatment. I would not risk my life to complete my degrees, but I may be able to wait an extra week, which would allow me to take 2 important exams.

I’m not a regular poster, but I am a regular reader and feel no other place to turn right now. I just found out that my cancer has returned after 4 cancer-free years. I haven’t told my family yet. My parents will book a flight to visit as soon as I tell them, and my mother is sure to summon the bishop for a blessing, start scheduling meals with RS, etc. (They are unaware that I no longer beli

I have never been through the temple. I was talking to a TBM friend of mine who describes herself as a "liberal Mormon." She says she has always taken issue with men holding the priesthood but she enjoys the temple because women have more of the priesthood power there and are equal there. I didn't press her for clarification. From everything I've read about the temple, that doesn't r

Whenever someone gets a mission call to SLC (or Provo? - can't remember), everyone always comforts the poor kid by saying, "It's the mission with the most baptisms in the world." Is that true? And if it is, why would there be so many converts in Utah when there are so many TBMs to begin with? Social pressures were the only thing I could think of...

YES to everything already said. I have been following that blog as we have mutual friends with that family. I am a childhood cancer survivor myself and I was sick to my stomach reading that.

Again, from Facebook... "I could truly see many muslims in the celestial kingdom. Many of them have such devoted hearts to follow what they know best. They truly hae a heart of gold." *facepalm* (Please note: I am passing no judgment on Muslims, only this totally crazy TBM.)

From Facebook today... "In the Millennium as historical records are corrected from the time of Adam to that day, it will be revealed that Mitt Romney won the election (popular vote) by a slim margin. It will reveal the individuals who helped to rigged the election throughout the nations polls to ensure this man never come to office." I'm going to go barf now. P.S. I hope this isn't

This girl is about 18 or 19 years old, about to turn in her mission papers, and she posts about gospel topics a lot and answers a lot of hate mail. I just think it's sad that she is wasting her life on a made-up story. From her blog: "If anyone were to ask if I was addicted to anything, I’d probably have to say yes—the gospel of God. It’s quite addictive. Its the first thing I c

I'm an atheist in the Bible Belt. While it may not have the exact same flavor of crazy as Mormonism or Utah, it's hard to find people with similar views. Everyone assumes that because I am a happy, kind, successful, hardworking person that I am a Christian. Also, having grown up with Mormon friends, it's kind of fun to figure out what is really going on in their heads and how they think. I ho

I have a friend who is an intelligent, liberal, feminist atheist. She grew up in an atheist household, and her parents are very educated, totally laid-back, open people who drink and swear. (Basically, they are normal people.) She confuses me because she voluntarily attends the LDS YSA ward fairly regularly. She is what you would call a "dry Mormon" - she never swears, follows the Wo

Just curious, are the hymns sung in the LDS church each week the same in every ward? Like how every ward all over the world supposedly has the same lesson for each week, is there a schedule/regimen for the music?

I had to attend a baptism in my local (YSA) branch last week. I guess it was your average convert for my area - a young black man, not well educated, who really didn't seem to be taking it very seriously. The service itself was boring. The first speaker talked about the importance of baptism, and he, though not the most enlivening speaker, did a good job. Then the new convert was dunked.
