My two cents: I think college is invaluable if, like me, you earn an engineering degree or a degree in something hands-on like physical therapy or something that's a stepping stone to a medical or dental degree. I too would be suspect of the value of a degree in Psychology, Communications, Marketing, Drama, or something similar. Even a general Business degree can become unmarketable. Unques

Two random thoughts: 1. Iona is a great college. Knew a gay guy who went there. Extremely sharp and intelligent. He hated everything Mormon. 2. Did you see that Dick Van Dyke (age 86) got married to a 40-year old makeup artist? Said he was "bowled over by her beauty." My take, she's a husky one. http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/dick-van-dyke-marries-arlene-757531

You know, even though Dwight on the Office is a total dork, I think Rainn Wilson might be onto something here. http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/11/tech/web/rainn-wilson-sxsw/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 Unrelated ironic note is that a second article could be written entitled "The Internet is the future of spirituality and the source of the demise of LDS, Inc."

CA girl, your activity rate is about right. Nice work and nice aspirations. I think what it boils down to is WHO VOTES. It's the active mormon grandmas that make it to the voting booth come hell or high water. The inactives and nevermos don't vote as frequently nor do they vote in blocks. Being a Utah-based exmo, it frankly sucks. But the reality is that the Area Presidents and Stake Pr

Yep, not enough men for the women. Just like olden times in Deseret when polygamy was implemented purportedly to take care of all the women/children without husbands. It's just a matter of time. Maybe all the mormons will move out of Utah and go to Mexico for legality reasons. Keep your fingers crossed.

Bezoar, the whole temple endowment ceremony is geared toward individuals becoming priest and priestesses, gods of their own worlds, etc. I don't have a transcript (and it's been too long for me to remember) of the ordinances, but they'd be another undeniable reference for you.

Took a commercial flight last week for a business trip. Sat in an exit row. Flight attendant spoke to the six of us in the exit row, required us to look her in the eye and verbally say "yes" to whether we could handle the responsibilities. Out of habit, I raised my arm to the square, looked down and said "yes." Flight attendant wasn't amused, but was sympathetic, didn't

I spent six hours Friday with my 47 year-old BYU grad co-worker. We spent 3 of those hours talking about his mission, 1 hour about his BYU experience, 1 hour about how he met his wife, and the very little amount of time leftover on our work. Unbelievably, this guy is 47 and his mission and engagement still command the majority of his attention. The guy is so simple-minded, and talks like he'

Guy, post revised to: "Mind control is difficult to acknowledge and reject mostly because it's so subtle." I concur with your frog-in-the-water analogy. That's what I'd meant, just wrote it incorrectly. Thanks for your suggestion. Curious if you'd agree with the revision.

Lost, nice work. Had to have felt stupendous. You know, I always thought mormons nursed a sense of inferiority. The reality is they continually nurse a sense of superiority. Fvck 'em all.

Rebeckah, agreed. Maybe the one follow up is, "And because my disbelief is so taboo to openly discuss, it should be blatantly obvious who's right and who's wrong."

Wheredatruth, First, your desire to not have doubts, to dive into the scriptures and pray for faith is an obvious product of mind control. Were you born with these desires? No. You were taught them by your elders. You're making great progress, but you need to admit and accept that you're a product of your environment, then take it from there. If you were born in China, you'd be a Buddhist

That reminds me of Max Hall's absurd comments about University of Utah fans spilling their beer on BYU Coach Bronco Mendenhall's wife and others at the Utah-BYU football game in 2008 or so. Mormons (especially trolls on this board) are fixated on alcohol. Max Hall's statement is wholly false, because Rice-Eccles hasn't allowed alcohol nor has sold beer there for a decade or so. It's just made-

The two photos in the link below illustrate how mind control in the LDS Church is essentially identical to that of Islamic fundamentalists. http://doublebmcconkie.blogspot.com/2012/03/mind-control-is-subtle-and-perpetual.html

"Every time I come over here, I think about the vision President Gordon B. Hinckley had for this endeavor," presiding bishop H. David Burton told KSL News in a recent interview. "We're well on our way to see a revitalization of the environs of the Salt Lake Temple and downtown Salt Lake." Funny how Hinckley can have a vision about how to spend $5 billion of tithing money,

Derrida, yes, you've hit the nail on the head. The blacks & priesthood issue this week highlights this point. The church teaches one thing to its tithe-paying constituency, but it publicly lies about it in press releases. I don't how it can be defended. I don't know how the church can be supported. We're taught that we're free to choose and that we're to teach correct principles and th

Displaced, in addition to the book 1984, there's a movie called "The Village" by M. Night Shyamalan (which he wrote after The Sixth Sense and Signs). The mind control and fear used by the main characters in the movie is akin to what you describe in the book 1984 and what you describe at BYUI. That's how the RLDS organization is run by Warren Jeffs, it's how the Moonies religion is m
