I was eating lunch when I noticed a guy in the parking lot. He had short hair and was wearing black slacks and a white short sleeved shirt. His back was to me as he was getting something out of the trunk of a ratty looking car. A missionary? Where's his companion? Is he on splits with a local? If so, where's the other guy? I hope they aren't going to try proselytizing here. After a few moments

It makes them feel worse while claiming to be the cure. Funny how all of my symptoms disappeared after I extracted myself from the LDS church.

...they ever tell the members they're doing just fine, they're righteous enough and to stop beating themselves up, the members would become less dependent upon the church, less needing of approval, less fearful of their eternal fate. The church would lose a chunk of its control.

Funny that being the former Utah chief justice didn't give him a clearer understanding of this stuff. When the courts declare a law unconstitutional, they aren't making new law, they are defending old law -- the foundation of the law. They're telling the legislative branch, sorry, you can't make a law like that. That's why certain factions are pushing for various constitutional amendments, so the

Sometime during my later years in high school, and then in college, I learned about mind control and behavior control techniques. They were usually attributed to Nazis or communists. But I couldn't help seeing how the same things were done in the LDS church. I tried to tell myself it was somehow okay because the church was trying to lead us to righteousness. The ends justify the means, right? Um,

The church reveals it's narrow vision when it thinks teenage girls are the only potential problem. I mean, hasn't The Lord clued them in on all the possibilities? (Oh, silly me, for thinking the brethren are inspired.) Of course, if they ruled out all possible problems, there would be no one left to house the missionaries.

Hard to imagine it being any further down than when I was at USU in the early '70s. If it weren't for student wards meeting there and the occasional dance the place would have been pretty much deserted. Okay, that's a slight exaggeration, but I didn't know anyone taking institute classes, and I was still semi-active at the time.

To be fair, the LDS church doesn't demand anyone to get married. Sure, it encourages, coerces, shames, threatens eternal consequences and otherwise uses all the manipulative tools in its box. And we can submit or reject their pressure. But they can't force anyone to do anything -- though it might feel like it sometimes. They're good at that stuff. Besides, the church routinely gives up on peop
