Speaking from my own experience, the outside world can seem very scary (that is part of being a true believer), but after "coming out", I realize that was all an illusion. When I left the church a few years ago, one of the foremost questions in my mind was how long it would take to make the adjustment and feel "right" about leaving. Looking back from my current perspective

I actually followed the advice of the D&C (to an extent at least). I studied it, BOTH SIDES, and contined in my callings and church meetings. I can fully relate to your experince as it was very frustrating to attend meetings and feel good about the church almost to the point of completely believing it was true, only to study the other side (such as actual history), and feel completely di

This is another one of the many things about religion that doesn't make any sense. Sometimes I question how anyone can believe in it.

I would like to take this opportunity to bear my testimony: I know that Joe Smith was a con man, a cheat and a thief. Tom Monson is not a prophet either. I know that the Book of Mormon is a 19th century work of fiction. Any salvation we obtain must come from within. No imaginary diety in the sky is going to save us from anything. In the name of Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins and

Correct - TSCC, and religion in general, has mastered the art of emotional manipulation.

Boyd the Sh*t Packer was/is full of sh*t. I speak from first hand experience, so to speak. I fondled myself plenty before and after being a member, and don't feel guilty about it at all! The only time I felt guilty was while indoctrinated with that crap. The man and the organization is truly evil for inducing feelings of guilt over something that is completely natural!

Choice # 4. You had a strong emotional reaction that came from yourself and not from God or the devil.

I have heard some believers say that they accept the big bang theory, but it must have been God that "lit the fuse". Others say that the big bang likely happened, but God was killed by the explosion. Personally I lean towards the idea that while God may have lit the fuse the resulting explosion must have scrambled his brains and he has been completely out of his mind ever since.

Mine was probably the belief that Jesus would return to the earth and usher in the millenium within a few years. At one time I was convinced that would happen during the '80's and I was really worried that I wouldn't be worthy enough when it happened. I was also convinced that God would protect the earth, our civilization and especially the United States from catastrophic events (such as nu

For what it is worth, we live in the midwest, so it may be different elsewhere, but... It has been my experience that when my family or I provided assistance to non church members, they almost always were more appreciative, and were much more likely to return the favor. Anyone else have similar experiences? What gives here?

Not certain, but if you search "lds" or "mormon church" then select a particular website from the search list, doesn't that move the website higher on the list on the next search? Of course for it to have much effect it would need to happen multiple times.

It yielded no direct hits, but related book titles included "Recovery from Cancer" and "Brain, Heal Thyself". Those seems appropriate.

Correction: Imaginary dieties such as mormon Jesus cannot explain their actions to apostates (or anyone else for that matter)!

Agreed, essentially use the same tactics the church uses to recruit members - take advantage of their weakness!

I think what you are doing is really great. Just as an idea, is there any chance a portion of the lesson(s) could be made into a video that would be suitable for posting on youtube, possibly even as a special assignment? If so, just imagine how many hundreds it could reach!
