I say to TBMs, "If somebody was in your neighborhood doing what Joseph Smith was doing in Nauvoo, you'd want him strung up. They tend to say, "yes, but God commanded it so . . . "

C-14 analysis by three independent labs places it around 1200 AD When that came out the Shroud Crowd were silent for about a decade. Then they started inventing reasons why the C-14 analysis must have been wrong. Their reasons don't hold water, but reason never stops someone who really wants to believe. See Alma 32 for the step-by-step process.

Why don't you go to Church any more? ...Because I no longer believe in it. Why don't you believe in it? ...It's not something I want to quarrel about. You realize that you're breaking our hearts. ...I'm sorry. Is it about wanting to sin? Were you offended? Did you do something bad? Yadda yadda yadda. ...Like I said, it's not something I want to quarrel about. ...(repe

The Bible has the excuse that it's being metaphorical. Mormonism doesn't have that excuse.

Someone simplified it even better: If the person you obey without question is dead, then it's a religion. If that person is alive, then it's a cult.

I have degrees in math and physics and I absolutely LOVE Genesis. However I approach it as ancient literature, alongside the Iliad, the Odyssey, the Enuma Elish, the Epic of Gilgamesh, the story of Sinuhe, etc. Many people have read the Tolkien books, "The Hobbit" and his Ring trilogy. No one is bothered that they tell of non-existant beings. My children were amazed that s

When Jesus was an infant both Judea and Egypt were Roman provinces. So there was really no immigration involved.

The phrase "rod of iron" appears four times in the KJV Psalms 2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel Revelations 2:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. Revelations 12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who

Exactly. Without our modern understanding of evolution and physiology (which Joseph Smith didn't have), the idea of God having a body isn't quite as absurd. Notice that TSCC no longer emphasizes God having a body like they did when I was a kid and access to information was limited.

The idea of an eternal, omnipotent, omniscient being outside of time and space doesn't contain the obvious contradictions that the Mormon God contains. Mormonism is a whole new special kind of absurd.

Mormonism's job is to make sure if something bad happens to someone, they're there to make it worse.

OK, I have a body. In fact I am my body--its structure and behavior. I have a nose to help me smell things. This allows me to avoid eating putrid things that would harm me. It also allows me to breathe. I have legs and feet which allow me to move about and find food, and allow me to run away from danger. I have arms and hands which allow me to manipulate the things aroun

Many complain about the tithing they paid. That's only money. They take your time--which is your life. They mold your time (which is your life) to fit their needs, not yours. That's the biggest theft of all. Against that the tithing is nothing.

That bit of "policy" got into the culture rather dishonestly. Back in the 50s the Church didn't have a policy on sleeveless wear. SIN! The female body is a curse upon humanity. It must be COVERED so that it does not entice young men (or older men who don't honor their priesthood) to impure thoughts. Women and girls must shun being "walking pornography." The sight of a bare shoulder is Satan's way of leading young men astray. Meanwhile guys can wear just about whatever they want. If I'd have been

Mormons LOVE to bear their testimony. To a Mormon having a "strong testimony" means that they KNOW it's true beyond question. Of course, "beyond question" just means that they've decided never to question it. But what if someone were living in a household where the Flat Earth view was considered unquestionable truth. What if the members of that household gather
