I think a UT county meetup at a neutral location would be a great idea for fellow atheists/exmos with families. We've got kids between the ages of 7 and 3, boys and girls. Weekends work well for us. Perhaps a Sunday? Perhaps at a park right across from a ward house? We can bring our lawn chairs and a 24 pack? ;-) j/k A meet up would be nice though. To learn more about how Mrs. Schlessinger fee

The very fact you're on here asking strangers is probably a cue you should consider breaking off the relationship. Don't go in to marriage with this level of doubt about your potential spouse. Listen to your instincts on this one. Your brain is trying to warn you about something, even if you don't consciously understand it. My advice is to find a person that loves you for ALL of you, the way y

Apparently a computer at the church looks as the qualifications of a missionary and assigns a mission that has planned vacancy. Then someone at church HQ prays to be sure he has no funny feelings about the assignment. Then form letters are sent. It is uncanny how often the "computer" assigns the attractive female missionaries to temple square. UNCANNY! http://www.mission.net/ has lis

You CAN leave. I know it is easier said than done, but missionaries do it all over the world, every week. If you do decide to leave, remember that they will usually pay for the plane ticket home. Depending on the type of person your mission president is, he may give you the HARD sell to stay in. Alternately he may put you on the next flight out of town before you "encourage" anyone else

Kind of like the time I sneaked behind our Zone Leader (former AP, considered best missionary in mission) to discover him browsing Internet porn, rubbing himself, in public. Boy was he embarrassed. I didn't say anything. Or the time I saw my companion checking out the playboys, of course in public. Or the time I saw a fellow district mish making out with his girlfriend (a recent convert). H

I find the phrase "stake clerk" (said in a depressing tone) a good come back to the "what is your calling?" question. NO ONE wants a stake calling, they instantly shut up.

It really seems your brother is doing all he can to both honor his and his finance's quite strict beliefs, while still trying to allow as much family participation as possible. Many people in similar situations don't go that far, so he must love you guys a lot. Life is too short to squabble over such things. Take in every moment like it is the last one you'll get. Honor your loved ones. Do all yo

If your children are "children of record", meaning they were blessed as children in a Sunday service, they might exist on the roles of the church some place. I've seen member lists with young children listed with no parents. So at least one time it was possible. When my wife and I left, we specifically stated that our children also be removed. When we got our confirmation letter from ou

I have been holding off participating until the software for this board was improved. Thanks for updating it. I love not having the frills and extra 'junk' you find on most forums. Also, something about the community that participates on this board is welcoming. My wife and I left the church officially two years ago, along with our children. I am 'out' to my family and all my neighbors. Howeve
