If Suzie Potter would be shocked, can you imagine what Suze Orman would think? It's a financial plan that will leave you homeless. And I agree with another post that said there should be no need for fast offerings and budget when someone is donating 10% of their income. That's just pure greed.

It's a stretch to say that the BKP pamphlet had anything to do with Shepards murder. If it had any influence in their decision to kill him it would have been part of their defense. Plus, those guys didn't look like type that did any reading or paid any attention in church, assuming they even showed up.

I had a couple of escapes planned. We had a stop over in Seattle when leaving the MTC (on my way to S.Korea). My exmo brother lived in Seattle and was going to meet me at the airport to see me off. During the flight to Seattle from SLC I made the decision to ask my brother to take me to his house. Unfortunately my brother wasn't able to make it so that plan failed. I then considered just leavin

We had a bishop who was diabetic and got up to talk on a Fast Sunday. He hadn't eaten that morning and it soon became very clear when his talk became alot of rambling that made no sense. (he was thanking the Relief Society for pictures in the foyer that they had nothing to do with etc) His wife had to come up and take him off the stand. I felt really bad for the guy. Another time there was a k

is the primary song " I want to be a missionary". I see it now as a brainwashing song for children. I put this right up there with parents who have their 5 years olds bear their testimony by whispering what to say in their ear. Extremely creepy.

Just curious if anyone had examples of ways they used food storage containers for purposes other than food storage. For example, there was an uber TBM family in our ward who put cushions on top of canisters of wheat and used them as pseudo-stools in the house. We used wheat canisters to hold up shelves in the garage. How bout you?

The "hope you weren't offended" pissed me off too. In their poor brainwashed heads there's no other reason anyone would want to leave. As mentioned, with the Prop 8 fiasco this is a much more valid reason, but it was in the pamphlet long before prop 8.

so do you feel any guilt for punching someone in the face for doing what is considered perfectly normal behaviour?

This gives a good side by side comparison. http://packham.n4m.org/mason-endow.htm Large parts of the mormon temple ceremony are word for word identical to the masonic ceremony.

I agree with T-Bone, burning down a church is not the way to show you dont agree with their views. The really unforunate thing is that the members are probably going to be hit up for some of the rebuiling costs. I dont see TSCC parting with some of their billions to pay 100% of the cost.

We join our voice with others in unreserved condemnation of acts of cruelty, or attempts to belittle or mock any group or individual that is different – whether those differences arise from race, religion, mental challenges, social status, sexual orientation, or for any other reason. Such actions simply have no place in our society. This Church has felt the bitter sting of persecution and ma

She should definitely consider going to some other church or joining a community organization. There is no point in going back to a mormon church if she is not going to get baptized. She'll never hear the end of it. Also, why would she want to go back to church where the "love" is so conditional? They wouldn't really love her, they would just love that she chose to come back. And

and I was surprised how my view of the general authorities has changed after leaving the church. I used to watch conference and just be bored by it. Not thinking too much about the men who were giving the talks. Now that I see it thru the eyes of a non-member, I realize just how crazy these old geezers are. And how the outside world must watch something like this and just laugh. Unfortunat

God doesn't condemn homosexuals. God condemns homosexual sex. If you choose to believe the book of Leviticus where it says "man should not lie with another man". Of course Leviticus also says that women who are having their period are unclean and anything they touch is unclean. And that disobedient children should be taken to the center of the city and stoned to death. Funny how th

I read on a previous post that the "acceptance standards" for missionaries had been changed about 10 years ago. Implying that not just any 19 year old kid that goes thru the temple can go on a mission. (as it was in my day) Does anyone know what the standards are in order to be accepted as a missonary?

There's not alot said about it. My guess would be that it's due to JS being involved in occult activity (seer stones etc), and that the temple ceremony could easily be described as occult in nature. I think if the church started openly condeming it, there would be alot of fingers pointing back at them.

Too bad the church cant use the "dirty windows" analogy in its judgement of homosexuality.

Remind her that eternal marriage for Mormons means that her husband will have many other wives in addition to her. Is she Ok with that? As already stated, many other religions believe that loved ones will be together after death. Mormons are the only ones that believe in polygamy after death. That's the real difference.
