People need to work much longer these days. The number of members financially able,or even willing to volunteer for a senior mission is likely to keep dwindling. It's just basic economics.

Keep the missionaries ill informed and teach just faith promoting stories. That is how it's always worked. My idea is to have some required reading for all missionaries, especially young girls. #1 book would be: "In Sacred Loneliness the Plural Wives of Joseph Smith ." by Todd Compton (LDS writer) (This book recounts the women's stories from their own journals/writings.) I

Ecclesiastical power at it's best! Convince believers that Heavenly Father needs you to find the "lost sheep" as it will guarantee you a special place in the Celestial Kingdom, and people will acquiesce~~ ! Stalking? Oh no. We're showing how much we love Heavenly Father! Apparently, it never enters their mind that members will be there if they want to. No chasing, no calling, no c

I figure they are both going to be worse than a bunch of fireworks off with marching bands ! The noise level will be deafening! :-) And all this time, all I want is some peace and quiet!

Unfortunately, some LDS are ill equipped to deal with anyone that left the church. I think part of it is fear. They are afraid free thinking will rub off. So they circle the wagons. The idea of a testimony is apparently so delicate and weak, the littlest thing can send them into some horrible "sin" and bingo - the testimony is gone. Just like that. Over. Done. Fear. Yup. Lots of it.

I changed my mind about any need for a religion or organized religion of any kind in my life. After many years of living different types of Christianity/Mormonism, I found I no longer wanted any dogma, or ecclesiastical authority in my life. With the time I have left, (as I am well into my seventh decade) I plan to live my life around the basics: make nice, love one another, treat others with ki

We had Community Service Projects when I was a member of the LDS Church. One was volunteering at a soup kitchen. To my knowledge, there are several that still do that one. One was making quilts for a senior center. Another time we made scarves for elderly women and men. I knew of projects where men painted a house, or landscaped a yard, or took junk to the trash, etc. We cleaned up a beac

Real? As in factual and reliable and actually happened? Ahh..no! They are claims of metaphysical, supernatural events. They are imaginary and no more reliable than a wild and crazy dream! BOM is fiction about imaginary people, places and things, the other claims of misc stuff is all a big old hoax. No translations of anything, either. So much for that religion.

First off, depression and anxiety can be medically treated as they are a medical condition. I think we need to understand the medical condition and get the proper treatment and not blame it on some experiences in life.

Something happened in my brain/thinking --- I began to think critically, not just accept the given notions as a child. I've thought a lot about what happened in that critical moment when I went from a believer in a God and Savior (the accepted, never questioned view of my family and as a convert to Mormonism) and the notion that I did not have to believe any of it. Bingo. No more rules of b

The White Wash is so effective. Oh ya, well, we used to do that but we don't do that anymore so it's not policy or doctrine. When a prophet dies, his words died with him. Only the current prophet speaks for the church. Members know only about 10% of the history and that has been White Washed until it's just more "faith promoting" ! Their answer that is so insulting: well, were you

When I read a strange response to something I post, I sometimes wonder: are they purposely misreading my comments, or they just having a "stupid" moment? :-)

I know people who have been drinking coffee (couple cups or more a day) for years and years and they all died between 60 and 70. Hmmm. Maybe it was the alcohol? Or some other problem? I didn't drink coffee for years, but I have for about 10 or more years and enjoy it. I'm a home brew-chocolate + cream aficionado.

I'm predominantly referring to the threads that go on and on with posters trying to make their point clear, while someone, (it appears) is more interested in being an annoyance and purposely misconstruing the statements just to get a rise out of someone and keep the thread going, with people often becoming more and more frustrated and angry. It's gone on for years with some of the same posters.

We spend a lot of time trying to explain ourselves, or correct something when posting online. It's particularly true when dealing with the emotional issue of religion. Many times, there seems to be a great difficulty making our words, (in black and white), say and mean what we intend. Sometimes, it appears that people are on a rant, defensive, angry, etc. and don't give a hoot about what you ar

I often wonder how people dealt with the differences in personality etc, before they were given labels and numbers in the DSM5 for billing. How did we manage? Every older generation complains about the younger generations! It's found in ancient writings! So here we are. Muddling along, trying to figure out how to make sense of this world we live in. One thing about religion -- it's o

DaisyMae WHOA..hold up.... I read every single word. It is not about who loves whom, or the most, or who got what and why and when, or about humility or shame, or saintly, not at all. Don't know about some lower kingdom either. I don't know where you got those ideas from, but they were not from me. I do know this: they won't bring you any peace or happiness or joy though! :-) I'm talk

It is OK to let it all go. It's just a thought. It can be changed. Want to change your world? Change your thoughts. This is your life. You get to live it as you choose. You're in the driver's seat. Take charge. Take your power back and own it.

Apparently they never read or understood or internalized Matt: 7: 1-5 1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let

Depends on what is meant by: God. A personal deity? Nope. No belief. Evidence is lacking. Lots of imaginary, mystical claims, though. A deity that hears and answers prayers? Ahh, not likely. A deity as a creator? Ahh, not so much. Doesn't seem likely to me anyhow. So many deities, so little time. Think I'll just skip the whole thing!

Thank you for being there for your dad. Timing. Who can tell? I had under a month with my husband before the end. It was very hard. I get it! My condolences. Now is the time to rest and contemplate and adjust. It will be a whole new path. Wish you the best.

Another day of fires spreading like crazy. The Boy Scout camp is gone and several other camping places. Lake Cachuma is closed (just recently water levels went up.) Lots of evacuations. Roads, highways are closed: 154, 246, l, 101... different parts are not open yet. I'm up in Lompoc closer to the ocean. My daughter called from TX (they have evacuations -- hurricanes!) and wanted to know

I like the comment about: "gushing over" all the neat clothes you acquired without spending a penny! There is a whole new level of power when we are grateful and thankful and appreciative. And the best part? They feel good, you feel good and everyone is doing someone nice for someone else. Secondly, I could not ever imagine getting even remotely upset at my mother when she was olde
