I'm in line with the OP. I started out VERY conservative. When I was 25ish, my dad come out that he was gay. Like a good little mor(m)on soldier, I basically abandoned him...along with the rest of my family. He developed chronic leukemia and, about 7 years after coming out, I had a huge change of heart while holding his hand on his death-bed. My beliefs took time to completely change but I nev

Wow...incredibly well done! Jeez...I really need to take some ancient history classes. Knowledge=self empowerment=freedom=true happiness Loved it. But I'd guess the sister probably didn't read much of your last, and most important, correspondence. :(

Holy cow, Dale, that's pretty rediculous! Man, I'm just amazed at how brainwashed so many people are. I just had it out with a TBM over the differing accounts of the first vision. I simply asked him to provide me with any diary accounts, conversion stories, sermons, speeches, etc that mention Joseph Smith's 1838 first vision account before that time. All he said was, "I was looking for

Dang funny! I knew the con when I saw his picture, the blog name 'General Authority', and that his nephew's name was 'Hyrum'. Who the heck has the time and imagination for this?? Brilliant!

Haha! I totally agree! I've been corrected several times by the temple worker for saying 'Melchizedek' wrong! That and 'patriarchal' grip. Luckily, I mastered the second token of the MP so I can embrace Christ in the five points of fellowship and whisper it back to him in his ear while we bump uglies. Knock, knock, knock... Oh the memories! Stupid effin cult.

Kirby's comparison is a fallacy. Just because Uchtdorf is German doesn't mean he espouses the same thoughts and rhetoric as the Nazi's. Now, if he was still part of a Nazi group then it would be a more correct analogy. Can you be a good Nazi and say you don't believe in the things the Nazi leaders teach/have done in the past? It's not just about being a "citizen" of a country.

Was it correct that only 5 exmormons and 1 TBM and 1 reporter was in the courtroom? Why would there be so few people inside if that's the case? I just can't imagine there wouldn't be numerous exmos in the UK wanting to see the action? And, why would a Deseret News reporter be there but not a SL Tribune reporter?

Boy, does that bring back memories of true phone modems (where you would put the actual telephone receiver on the modem block) and 20 MEGABYTE hard drives costing over $400! Haha! We left the church last year because I had a question about D&C 49:16 during Gospel Doctrine class so I pulled out my IPAD! I got my answer the church wasn't true right during church (well, the start of it an

Wow, great write-up!! Thank you so much for breaking it down that way. All I can say is the Mormon god is a god of nepotism. Since Alam the younger was the son of a great prophet, he got a second chance. Not so with an outsider. Thanks for the honest Gospel Doctrine lesson. ;)

My niece is in SC and just sent the family a video of the destruction. That was a BAD ice storm. My niece was happy about it though! An excerpt from her email: "Power went out thursday night and is not expected back on until wednesday night in most places!! It is so crazy! So obviously church was cancelled. So we drove to Greensboro, about 40 mins away, and went to church! It was like

Correct about the mileage. With us five and two dogs, we've have an SUV and/or mini-van almost our entire marraige. And, because I'm cheap, I buy 7-10 year old vehicles which inherently aren't great with mileage. For the last few years, we've owned a 2005 Yukon that averages 13mph (even on the freeway). Plus, we had to drive a big vehicle because we were always in the YM/YW and had to give ri

You bet, smo! This was a huge factor as to why we resigned so quickly. We were doing all the *work* necessary so our family could all be together in the Celestial Kingdom forever. When we realized the huge scam, we couldn't run away fast enough! Too much time, money, and emotional energy was being spent for us to continue another day.

Sorry if this has been done before. I was going to respond to the recent post about the gas expense associated with Mormonism but then my figures got a little out of control so I decided to make a dedicated post. Below is a breakdown a typical month in my family (wife & 3 teenagers - and we live close to a ward building): 1) 4 trips to church for Sunday service. Many times we would

Yes, DW and I told our parents and family. When we decided to pull out of the morg, we went back to Utah and had meetings with both sets of families. It was devastating to my family...but TOTALLY worth it! I'm so glad we don't have to hide our feelings. Initially, there were some real bumps but it got a lot better after a few months. Religion is off the table when we visit and we're all ver

Holy cow...is this person a troll? The OP said, ""disproving" religion is easy. So is science." Are you kidding me?? All science wants is to be disproven!! That's what drives science. If I can setup a "theory" that seemingly can't be disproven (e=mc2) then I'm a hero. As soon as YOU can disprove that then YOU'RE the hero. Religion is the exact opposite!

I was with you till the last line: "And if things hold true, this message will never see the light of day." Are you saying the mods would delete your post? I don't think you've been around lately. Well, I have to agree with all the responses. My DW and I loved the members of the ward. But we certainly didn't like being duped by the hierarchy of the church. Most "lay

I just wanted to give a shout out to everyone who showed up to chat about the philosophies of Mormonism mingled with dinner...and drinks. Everyone arrived by a little after 7:00pm. A good group of us didn't leave until about 11:30! It was a great time with TONS of conversation....some of us conversing more than others (sorry). ;) I feel bad for the outsiders around us who just wanted to have

^^^ Very sad ^^^ I wonder how many damning documents have been destroyed over the years. To the OP, aren't we on the doorstep of the 'second coming' with our hand on the knob...and the door almost cracked open? You'd think old Monson would grab that rock out of the safe, throw it in a hat, and reveal the unsealed portion!

"absurd, impossible..." Really? Can anyone say, "glowing submarines because they couldn't have glass windows?" Here's the problem, Randy; when you think about this as a never-mo, could the judge deem it SO ridiculous that he couldn't believe anyone would fall for it in the first place?? I'm being facetious...sometimes I just can't understand why I ever believed??

The, 'Ten Problems Explained' video from the mormonthink.com website is a REALLY great video to start with. It's very professionally done and comes across in a non-"anti" way.
