Quote from "A Brief Introduction to the Universal Model:" The UM is written to inspire a different thinking about science and about how to apply scientific principles during the coming years, destined to provoke thought and arouse the curiosity of not only the science minded, professional and amateur alike, but every individual who simply wants to know how Nature works and why we ar

Precision has always been part of my being. My career was in accounting, something precision oriented. Everything I do seems precision related. I am very obsessive about things, though I've never been diagnosed OCD. And the Mormon church took my inherent quest for precision and exactness to exponential extremes. Nuckinfutz is a perfect term for where I am.

Wait just a darn minute. What about those authentic accounts of human-alien hybrids documented in the X-Files? Fox Mulder made it all up? Say it isn't so.

^^^^^ This 100% And the animal shelter idea. And the UU idea. I've considered UU as an alternative if I ever wanted to do any sort of church again. Very inclusive and love based, not exclusive and judgmental.

Maybe that was when the prayer circle was doing the chant. For that part of the ritual the audience sits quietly while those in the circle chant and make signs. When everyone makes the oath everyone stands, except those in wheelchairs, etc. I was an ordinance worker five or six years ago and I don't think anything has changed since then. BTW I resigned in 2014.

A bishop I had once also made a very misogynistic statement. I don't think it was in a public setting like sacrament meeting, but I heard it nonetheless. He said that boys were more special that girls. He had six daughters and two sons.

They have to be propping up their own faltering faith. Otherwise they'd keep their mouths shut and be among the quiet faithful.

Interesting analogy. At least at the temple you don't have to look at a dead person. Yet some dead people I've seen at funeral homes look better than temple patrons.

I couldn't make it all the way through this link. Bryan Fischer is so far out in the realm of rational thought it is unbelievable. I sincerely hope the big 15 aren't all this deluded. God (it/she/he/nothing) help us all.

My TBM wife keeps insisting that polygamy's main purpose was to provide widows and unmarried women, who she says outnumbered men, the chance to marry. I very much disagree with her but I have no hard facts or statistics to back up my stance. Can anyone help me out here? We are both reading the Essay on Polygamy in order to discuss it later. I'm disappointed in the essay but it does admit to so

This is the Correlated Church's perspective of things in their imposed bubble. SLC is multicultural and exmormons have myriad views of Mormonism. Some soft, some medium, some hard, and some "I don't give a rat's ass." It's a broad spectrum unlike how the Correlated Church wants TBMs to be. I'm sure TBMs view things from myriad positions, but they are not allowed to voice their views for

the two of us believing differently. For our 47 years of marriage I've been going along to get along with her steadfast belief in the church. I have tried many times to gain a testimony. I have served in many callings. I even became an ordinance worker at the Jordan River Temple for a short time (until I couldn't take it anymore). Finally things were somewhat resolved between us yesterday. We

Ah. I didn't know that. I've actually investigated that church because it seems so inclusive rather than exclusive.
