Not long, and hopefully Hoax won't either. The good thing about a number of them dying one after the other is it makes the role of profit visibly defunct. Members see that these guys get the role but are too old to achieve anything. Another small but useful step to the truth.

I saw Holland speak as i was in Coventry Stake and Solihull was in the stake at the time. Tom P was SP. Even when i was a hardcore TBM i still struggled with Holland, he struck me as over the top, volatile, like a bad boss. A men unable to control his emotions and use level headed persuasion and reason. Ranting and pulpit thumping usually strikes me as the act of someone who cannot control th

I agree with the view that cultural Mormon's - those who actually know the facts and know it isn't true as opposed to those who can't be bothered with the details and only attend for social things - these people are liars. There were a number of them in my old ward. What irks me is after i left and came out as a vocal non believer, some of them came and spoke to me to persuade me to stay on re

Doesn't this mean though that they themselves lack the confidence to 'act' as apostles really would? In withdrawing from prophetic utterances aren't they really conceding that they don't believe in themselves in those roles and thus also they doubt they really are apostles and prophets - putting pay to the frequent 'do you think they believe it' debate? I would expect genuine believers to

I'm not interested in trawling through this again. If you want to believe it was a conspiracy feel free. But you could simply use google and specifically search for the images on line, there are plenty of them.

This thread flushes out a motherload of sub-threads each debating why 'insert conspiracy here' is actually the truth and everyone battling to argue for or against. The amount of times i've debated and walked through the facts on planting explosives in buildings re: 911 to explain that is was NOT a planned demolition, or had to show people the plane parts from the Pentagon attack to demonstrat

I left the church a few years ago after finding out the facts. I had a serious discussion with my TBM brother and gave him the CES letter. He read it all the way through. When we next met he agreed with the findings, the TSCC is a fraud, Smith lied. That was it, he knew. Except...His wife was from a strong TBM family and it would be unlikely that she'd leave and it could cause family issues.

Their is a Taliban theme in Mormonism in which the education of women means a threat to men and their control over women. Imagine a ward made up of several female CEO's and board Directors, along with serious female academics whilst the men are car mechanics and house decorators - could you imagine the stupidity of letting men manage finances but letting the women talk about child rearing and

This is a license for the ward crazies to come out of the box and 'reveal' the future to all. It's heading in the fast lane to fundy land

The more he talks about people leaving the more he promotes the idea that people are leaving the church and begs the question why? This is why in nudge communications they focus on landing the message differently, playing the peer angle - hence the vast majority of people re-using their towels is a common hotel message. When people hear that lots are leaving, they wonder why. When told don

Hi Henry, I get that you're pushing Margret Boden, but all i'm seeing is you failing to present a legitimate case for her argument even in summary and resting your points on an appeal to authority along with some assumptions about what creativity is and what sits outside of the realm of human creative capability (none of which is proven). You're asking me to read her book in full when i

One last thought: In terms of machine thinking, we know a machine does not think, but the software when combined with the machine produces what looks like thought - it mirrors thought based on how it is programmed. I believe Humans are the same. We believe we are conscious, but i'm going to go out on a limb and say we experience the illusion of consciousness - we track sensory data coming

Hi Henry, Let me be clear. I am a materialist. I'm holding to the view that all of the functions of personality, consciousness etc are all traceable back to the Human Brain. Absent the brain there is no function. All of these functions are derived from the brain and the many areas it has that collaborate in order to produce the idea of consciousness and the idea of a genuinely original creativ

Someone needs the balls to call these people out in the meeting. Ask them a question that locks them in first and shows to the audience that they are common liars. If i saw any of them whilst walking in SLC i'd call out to them, 'Hey fraudsters - still faking you've seen Jesus, still taking money from the poor'. Some might not agree, but i'd make it clear that whilst they may hide amidst t

Human, Forgive me, but it reads like 'looking beyond the mark'. For instance, the statement 'I am walking involves the act of walking and the pronoun I. Yet it is accepted that the brain manages the walking process in concert with muscles and the spinal cord to all ME to walk. The I that is me and the process of doing something whether thought or act are long understood to be different.

Hold up!!! Wow, this is the first time i'm seeing this and i live in the UK. But, i know this guy, or at least i did. The UK is not so vast and it's membership so broad as to make it unlikely that a person such as i would have had past acquaintance with this man - albeit in much younger years. Does anyone know the back story to this? The last time i saw him he was discussing why Ger

Hi Henry, Before we go any further i'm of the view we need a much clearer definition of 'creativity'. We need to work out what it means, as to me, looking at the above, the term appears to be too loose to be of much use. For example, a person who has not seen a nut and bolt before but is able through visualisation to put the two parts together is using a creative function toward problem so

Hi Henry, There are some parts of your response that concern me: 1. "But, again, deterministic processes are by definition NOT creative processes. So, you either have to explain human creativity, or deny it." 2. "where does the creative act come from? That is a metaphysical question, at least at the moment, because it cannot be explained by an appeal to rote, physical and

Free Man, enjoyed reading your comments. You said: "Realize that church members appear to be in the church because of its doctrine, but subconsciously the social aspect is driving their interest. Which is why highly educated, apparently intelligent people are able to believe all sorts of goofy ideas spouted in church and scripture. My wife joined the church at college a year befo

Hi Nuuvox, All of these people welcoming you and not one of them was assigned to be your fellowshipper :) What's more, you won't be placed on a list to discuss your activity. You won't be asked how often you masturbate or if you have paid to access the board privileges. You won't be asked to speak or post on a rota. That said we don't have a basketball court you can use for sports or f

Hi MarkJ, It is possible. There are many possible avenues that things could go down in terms of discoveries. But is it more likely at this point in time? When Henry presented this idea, my initial thinking was skepticism based on Ockham and on the history of human discovery. It is possible that we are a world within a world, a brain in a vat, a computer simulation, a 2D world projecting

Yes i did. However does my new 'God' met all of the God criteria - that i'm not sure of since whatever 'God' i don't think has ever been explicitly defined. In an ironic sense i don't think Mormonism - or at least it's sources like Thomas Dick etc, were too far off the mark in some respects. The convergence between abiogenesis, evolution, and theology strikes me as fascinating, since ou

18 years in and my marriage isn't like storing the oatmeal day in day out. My wife is awesome, funny, articulate, very hot, and a great partner. I'd liken marriage to great shoes...outside of marriage I see the agro of trying on lots of shoes that i'm not keen on the look of, or when i like the way they look they don't fit right and cause discomfort. Trying to get a great pair of shoes th
