Seeing the Book of Mormon musical and then becoming a Mormon is like seeing a production of "Cats" and then running off to get spayed or neutered.

Well, you see, because Dean was a famous actor he's certainly been dead dunked, like all deceased celebrities. And now that he's Mormon, his church can't depict him as breaking the Word of Wisdom, right?

This phrase: "but, if necessary, they can be excommunicated while overseas on mission tours, or something of that sort" sent my sarcast-o-meter into the red zone. Donut Dan is not making a genuine proposal here. His use of the terms "fellow traveler" and "comrade" also imply to me that this plan is intended to be taken as seriously as the idea of Dan moonlig

The rotten fruits of Joe's religious pillage Increased so quickly that he was obliged to issue orders To travel west to Kirtland, then a small Ohio village. 17. A couple of days ago, I read an L.A. Times article on how gangs of armed men in Tanzania are invading homes at the point of a machete in order to abduct albino children by force. The kidnapped children (infants, 4-year-olds, whatever they can get) are then hacked to death and their limbs cut off for folk medicines. Since the sequence of amputation and death isn't made fully clear, maybe the limbs

Have a great time. No, really. Enjoy your three-hour block. Magnify your callings. Cut those checks. Praise the Man. Follow the prophet, he knows the way. Obey the bishop. Don't look at shoulders. 100% home teaching. Don't forget your weekly temple visits! Bear your testimony early and often. Bring your scrub brush. Church is all or nothing, so put it first in your life, even above your family

Wonder if the history included LDS ordinances, i.e. which of his ancestors have been dead dunked, proxy endowed & sealed into the church. "See, Mr. Cameron? All of your ancestors have joined the church, and they're happy now, so you should too!"

The Zelph incident is VERY well documented. There's no debate about the fact that on June 3, 1834, men from Zion's Camp unearthed bones from a mound in Pike County, Illinois, which JS then identified as belonging to Zelph. Four Campers recorded the event in their journals at that time. Some details seem to have been added in later years, but the basics are well established. A detailed analy

I imagine the evangelical and fundy sites have bad anti-Mormon stuff. IIRC, John Wankerberg (intentional typo) wrote a pretty stupid anti book. These guys are some of TSCC's best friends. TBMs and jacks tend to lump the loons in with legitimate truth tellers, and so they stay in, assuming all church critics are wacks.

"They hate that I read things on here" Of course they hate it. Knowledge is their enemy. They are salesmen, and knowledge makes their sales job harder. But that's their problem, not yours. "I'm tired of feeling the need to please them." You don't owe them anything. They don't care about you as a person. They want to baptize you to make themselves heroes, as they imagi

"You will respond to this with Yes Sir and you will get moving." Astonishing. Your husband's self-restraint in the face of that was remarkable. It sounds like they will stoop to anything. Be prepared for an unannounced visit from the inlaws, even though they live several states away, probably when your husband's at work. Have a contingency plan that you can mutually agree upon.

Oh it was there all right. See my first post, where I copied and pasted it so I could specifically respond to it. Apparently the OP's first edit was to remove that one phrase I focused on; his second edit was to delete the entire message. But he couldn't edit my post, and so that will remain forever. And he never did, or could, answer my question as to how he got away with it. So yeah, it was

"although my comp felt bad and he confessed for banging his girlfriend" OK, what I don't get here is how you escaped free & clear. Part of your "job" was to keep your comp from doing that. If neither of you confessed, then fine; but he did confess. Any MP worth the title should have grilled you *hard* as to where you were during all this, and how he could have managed i

I don't remember what my leaders said about marrying early, since I never really bothered to pay much attention to them in the first place. Actually, for the life of me I can't even recall a meeting with my SP. Some sisters are looking for husbands. I remember one in particular; the story was that her patriarch had given her a pre-mission blessing and promised her that she would find her husba

I saw the historical Jesus several times. I also saw his historical brothers Matty and Felipe. Not in person, though, just on TV. Jesus was a good right-handed hitter for average, not much power or speed. Could have walked more.

Not as often, but occasionally. As I've pointed out on other threads, BRM used an 1843 prophecy by JS to establish a 2000 benchmark. But as time passes, the SC recedes ever farther into the future. Reason #4 would have made me go nuclear. That would have been a *permanent* deal breaker, no second chance for life. I cut my mother off because of not respecting boundaries. What I did was simply to file her email address in my spam filter. Now if she sends her stupid emails to me, the filter catches them and they never reach my inbox; I never see them, and my blood pressure stays down.

Firing the sitter on the spot seems draconian to me. It's not like she took your child to church behind your back; she just asked for permission to do so. In her 14-year-old mind, it could be a simple innocent question. How can she know what's allowed if she doesn't ask? Meting out the same punishment for doing something highly inappropriate (which she didn't) and asking a question sends the m

"Feb 15, 1940 - '…Her name is Laraine Day, and lips that touch liquor shall never touch hers…'" A few years in Hollywood blew that promise out of the water, since she married Leo Durocher in 1947 or '48. I doubt the Desperate News mentioned her much as a role model after that.

In my last area (Ottawa), I was in a district with a grandson of one of the 1Q70. The four of us shared a single apartment. He was actually a pretty cool guy, didn't play it up or lord it over the rest of us; in fact, he seemed almost embarrassed when we ribbed him about it. Soon after I got home, I met his cute girlfriend, although I don't recall the exact circumstances. We got to talking and

Instead of putting $$$ in the envelope, slip in a piece of paper with mormonthink.com cesletter.com wivesofjosephsmith.org on it. Or maybe a note ripping the bishop a new one. Either one will make them think twice. And the kids will never be the wiser. P.S. I'm a pushover for Girl Scout cookies. The lemon cremes are awesome and the scouts are always adorable.

My picks are unchanged from the last poll. Clayton, Clark, Robbins in that order. Clayton – the goon behind Prop 8 and Kate Kelly. Never mind both were fiascoes, the church doesn't care. He's proven he'll do whatever he's told and whatever it takes. Clark – went from dean at HBS to prez of one of the least-respected universities in the country. I can't believe he would have killed hi

What's especially ridiculous about the JFS quote is that he subsequently flat-out lied about it, denying that he or anyone else had made such a claim: Joseph Fielding Smith, "The Way to Perfection," pp. 101-102: "Not only was Cain called upon to suffer, but because of his wickedness he became the father of an inferior race. A curse was placed upon him and that curse has bee
