Did I read that right? He thought for nine years after his son came out as gay that God was not answering his prayers as a punishment for him having a gay son? But then one day, nine years later, when he “heard” 10 to 12 songs in his head that was God telling him that for the last nine years He had been saving him from having a gay son by not answering those prayers? Staggering.

The 10% of membership fact comes from the leaked European Area Presidency report which listed membership in Europe at 500,000 and adult recommend holders (tithe payers) as 48,000 (from memory but it was about that). That report also listed Sacrament attendance as around 100,000 (20% activity rate). Edited to add link to leaked report: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rkrzewzliwbsrvl/2014%20Europe

Fact 1 - The Church in the UK claims circa 190,000 total members. Fact 2 - The Church in the UK receives circa £31-32 million a year in tithing donations. If 10% of the 190,000 (using the leaked report numbers) were adult tithe payers - that would work out at an average annual tithe per person of circa £1,700 a year. I'd say that's in the ballpark of where it actually might be. But ac

The Church report on European membership showed figures of 20% activity and of the claimed membership number a rate of 10% adult tithe payers. What is your ball park estimate based on?

Going on the rates from the leaked 2017 Europe Area Presidency report, there are likely less than 2,500 temple recommend holding adult members in Italy.

Once again the Church has missed the curve. People now are very wary of social media, and perceive the evils of it. Even the Church President is telling people to stay off it, yet now the Church decides to try and utilise the medium. Always a day late and a dollar short.

Thanks for posting that. I can find one other example in one of the replies to a Mormon Newsroom Tweet. In both it mentions the recipient of the letter was getting it because they caused a disturbance during Church services. For example, Mike Norton has (unsurprisingly) received such a letter I personally know people who have been excommunicated who attend Church still quite happily and are we

“Vicky Chavez, an LDS mother of two young girls, remains sheltered at a Unitarian Church Wednesday night, after she sought sanctuary in an effort to avoid deportation to Honduras. Reverend Monica Dobbins, of The First Unitarian Church in Salt Lake, said they would shelter Chavez and her daughters for as long as possible until she resolves her immigration case. In the meantime, Chavez is choos

Quinn’s tithing estimate of $33 billion looks spurious. Most back-of-an-envelope projections using currently published numbers would peg it between $5 and $7 billion per annum - which is still an awful lot of money in comparison to the $40 million a year Oaks claims the Church spends on humanitarian (helping the poor and needy) programmes.
