I resigned by email last November. It didn't even take them a week to send me the letter that said my name was removed.

If it were racist pro-religious graffiti I'm sure they would've been fine with it.

Man, don't even get me started. My mother has always talked about the end of the world like it's right around the corner. She was sure it was going to happen in 2000, and then she was sure it was going to happen in 2012, and now she's still sure it's going to happen in the next few years. Nothing ever gets through to her. She talks about it the way most people talk about next Christmas. Like it's

Ignorance is also easy. Anyone can ignore facts that contradict their own beliefs. Bigots do it all the time.

The thought idly crossed my mind early in the morning, shortly after waking up but before getting out of bed. I can remember women from the bible, Ruth, Naomi, Esther, but I couldn't remember the name of a single woman from the book of mormon. I was raised mormon. There were years when I read it every single day. How messed up is it that I couldn't remember the name of a single woman from it?

Poor guy. I really don't understand how he can stay in a church that shames him just for existing. I sure the hell couldn't.

You do know that withholding treatment for a known issue is also a form of abuse, right? Trans kids can die without medical intervention. We're not talking about a tattoo here. No one needs a tattoo to live. Part of allowing a child to express themselves is allowing them bodily autonomy. Withholding necessary treatment is just as bad as altering the kid's body against their will. What matters

Yes. Especially if you're gay or transgender.

I know this is difficult for you to understand, but maybe the reason neither says they are lesbians is because they are not lesbians. A person doesn't have to get surgery to be trans, or even "dress male". Whatever the fuck that means. You do know clothing doesn't have a sex, right? Last time I checked jeans don't have tiny little denim dicks and vaginas. It sounds like the cause

And it really has nothing to do with stereotypes. I always felt like myself. But I also felt like people were treating me like something I'm not. They were expecting feminine girly behavior from me, and I just wasn't that kind of person. So forget about what it means to "feel like an opposite gender" and instead ask yourself this: How would it feel if everyone thought I were somethi

Yep, I knew when I was 4. Too bad my parents weren't listening. They already had a plan for what kind of person they wanted me to grow into and were far too busy trying to force me to become something I'm not.

You can't order children the way you order a dinner at a fancy restaurant. Most people will accept a boy even if they really wanted a girl, or a girl even if they really wanted a boy, as long as the children are born that way. What difference it is if they aren't? I'd like to think that most people choose to have children because they want a relationship with another human being (albeit a small o

I hate how parents think they can just control their kid's lives. Unfortunately, my parents would've had the same response. There's no reasoning with them. They think they know everything. I hate how our system treats children like property. As a parent myself, I would do whatever was necessary to keep my kids healthy and happy. That's all there is to it.

That's exactly what's wrong with the world. People assume that your genitals define you. I think it should be the other way around. I get that people want to be cautious as far as kids are concerned, but denying them treatment can do more harm than good. You act like kids can "just wait" to figure out who they are, but if their identity is already consistent (which it must be, for a

Hormone blockers are different than hormone replacement therapy. Hormone blockers can be stopped at any time to allow puberty to resume. Hormone replacement therapy does things that can't be reversed. No one is suggesting that these kids go through irreversible changes, In fact, hormone blockers spare them from irreversible changes that the will undergo if they don't get hormone blockers.

You can take the mormon out of the church, but you can't take the church out of the mormon. Sorry, man. Looks like she wasn't as over it as you thought. It's hard to undo their brainwashing.

My parents love the church more than they love me too. It was one of the first things my mother said after I came out. "If I have to choose between you and God, I chose God." The thing is, I never asked her to choose. She's the one who insisted that loving and supporting me was incompatible with her beliefs. Mormons preach love and acceptance, but only if you live by their standards. If

Wow, your parents are even more controlling than my parents were. When you feel uncomfortable at home that's a sign that your home isn't healthy. Parents are supposed to support you as you learn to make your own decisions, not plan out every waking moment of your life for you. I let my 9-year-old have more freedom than that. All my kids are allowed to go outside on their own, play on electron

Ask a person what their gender is. That is their gender. Or you could do it the old fashioned way and peer at their genitals. That totally doesn't make you a creep or anything.

Trans people are part of the LGBT community because the people who hate gays are the same people who hate us. The world believes that in order to be a man you must: 1. Have been born that way 2. Act masculine 3. Be attracted to women. Gay men break #3 and sometimes #2. Trans men break #1, and sometimes #2 and #3 as well, which brings me to my next point... Trans men can have any sexu

I agree with all of this. A patriarchal system is designed to subjugate women for the benefit of men. Therefore, if there are men who don't need (or even want) women, that's a problem. Lesbians and people who are bi or pan? Not as much of a problem, but still a problem. Heteronormativity must be enforced in order to maintain the patriarchy. You can't enforce it when people aren't straight, and yo

I agree with thatsnotmyname. When you leave the church it can feel like it's the end of the world, but it doesn't have to be. For every person you lose you'll gain someone who loves you, understands you, and appreciates you for who you are. Sometimes I look back on it and wonder why the hell I stayed so long, because my life is so much better now. I'm not gonna lie, it was painful when my fam

I love this analogy. People look down on masturbation, but there's no difference between that and getting in a little basketball practice before the "big game". If you want to be good at anything you need to practice first. And some people just enjoy playing with their balls. Nothing wrong with doing something just for the fun of it.

I think it's a good thing they're taught that leaders make mistakes, because they do. No human on this earth is perfect. What bothers me is that they're encouraged to support and follow leaders even when they do make mistakes. Look, everyone knows that Thomas Monson is full of shit at this point. The only real question is whether or not they want to continue to put up with it. Tscc stresses obedi

I've had medicaid for years. There are plenty of doctors who take it in my area, but not as many specialists. It's supposed to cover everything considered medically necessary, but anything considered cosmetic or experimental will not be covered. There's also a difference between having straight medicaid and medicaid managed care, which is what I have. With managed care you become a member of

You know what I find laughable about this? I already do most of these things on a daily basis. What kind of people are in the church that they need a special challenge to get them not to criticize and judge others? The leadership is setting the bar pretty low if they're willing to publicly acknowledge that their members don't already behave this way.
