I would love to attend some other churches, but I am currently living in China. There are some Christian churches around, I even heard them singing this morning as I was walking out to go to work. I guess they have rented a little store front for their church. I guess communism hasn't gotten rid of all of them. The only trouble is that I do t think I am allowed to attend their services as a f

Exactly right. I spent my entire life learning that all other religions are false, and why they are false. On the day you discover that this church is also a fake, it doesn't really leave much to fall back on.

Thanks for the list. I have difficulty at this point with Christianity because it is at it's heart very exclusive. It started as a branch of the Jewish faith, which is also exclusive. Why does God have chosen people? Why even bother creating all the other people if they didn't matter? why does the Bible seem to emphasize authority? There is a lot. I spent two years on a mission arguing

I no longer believe in the church, so what does that leave me? I spent too long making arguments against any other Christian church to find them believable. Once again, what does that leave me? Has anyone else made the jump from Mormon to some other religion? Perhaps you can explain.

As for answering, I always just tell them. Funny thing is that people who served over seas sometimes come back with a snarky comment. I guess I wasn't as worthy or capable, so I was sent to enjoy sunshine and palm trees.

California Long Beach Mission. Spent some time in Compton as well as some of the richest places I have ever been. Can't say I loved every minute, but I did enjoy getting to know so many different cultures.

They would never drop the garments. They probably love the revenue generated from people having to purchase all their underwear from the church.

There is room, in a secular society, for all views. The only people waging war are those who know the truth would prove them wrong.

That is pretty much what the church teaches. Your entire purpose in life is to create physical bodies for spirits to be born and then raise them to be good LDS adults. If this is the truth, then why did God even bother giving women inteligence? It makes me sick to hear this sort of thing.

My coworkers are all communists and crazy drunkard expats. As for neighbors, they are all old Chinese people who seem to only be concerned with making sure I eat healthy food.

On my mission we used to scoff at the JWs because we heard they could get kicked out for reading the BoM and other religious tracts. I do not know if that is actually true of them, but I see the LDS church is not so different. I am surprised that someone who is living all the standards of the church would be threatened simply for visiting a website.

I grew up in a place like that. I am from Northern VA (DC area). Of course the missionaries were always there anyway because they lived in my parents basement.

I have read a couple of times on this site that people have been threatened with "disciplinary action" for posting on this and other websites. Is this true?

It is more likely your parents are giving the church your new address and having your records moved. Sometimes the bishop will have the missionaries go check to see if the person really lives there. I know because I was sent out to check a few times on my mission. I sometimes miss seeing the missionaries. They are forbidden where I live.

In that case I recommend visiting only on fast Sunday. Maybe even get up and say something really crazy while there. "...and that's when the angel of light appeared! That is how I knew that this time the slot machine would pay out. When it didn't I knew it was because of pride on my part... of this I hear solemn witness in his name Amen"

You don't have to drink, but I doubt you would become an alcoholic, drive drunk, or get a DUI. Besides that, you may find you absolutely cannot stand the taste of alcoholic beverages anyway. Don't sweat it, if you aren't the type to do something horrible, a beer isn't going to turn you into a murdering maniac.

If you really wanted to go to church then what is stopping you? Do you have to believe in the church to attend sacrament meeting? Think about it this way, you can go to sacrament meeting, skip all the other hellish meetings, and not have any sort of guilt over it. Maybe you can go there sometimes, and other times to a catholic meeting. Or maybe others. You are completely free now, no obligat

I will never understand the mentality of some people. I have heard churches and their followers compare gay people to pediphiles and other horrible things. Who is the persecutor? And who is the persecuted? The Christ that I remember invited all to come unto him. Matthew 11:28 says, "come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." I cannot imagine any

This was the one saving grace of the church. They didn't believe that God lives in some magical place in the clouds. If he is God of the Universe, then he obviously wouldn't just spend all his time on earth (he has worlds without number).

If Adam was the first to die, then what happened to his son Abel? I thought he was killed by his brother. I am pretty sure that means he died.

He was glowing? Why didn't other people in the airport take notice of this? I think it would cause quite a stir if someone was glowing enough to be noticed from a distance in a busy airport. These types of stories are common in the church.

The church is full of people like me. I absolutely believed despite having obvious evidence thrown in my face from time to time. I found every way to justify it in my mind. The scrolls simply inspired Jospeh Smith, maybe there was an earlier version of Egyptian, thus causing the new translations of the boa scrolls to be incorrect (desperate, I know) etc... The only thing that got me out was s

You could always try what I did. Get as far away from the church as you possibly can. I moved to China, not as difficult a thing as you might think. Of course you don't have to go to such extremes, but it has been wonderful for me. Nobody expects me to be a certain way, I feel completely free for once in my life.
