Well said, Tig, thank you for sharing that. I was already personally at my own tipping point in 2008 regarding my situation and the Mormon church: it was Prop 8 and the suicide of a gay friend that put the final nail in the coffin. Packer's homophobic diatribe in Oct. 2010 general conference galvanized me to make my resignation permanent and official.

From the article: "Among the reasons why Jones, a Mormon who attended Brigham Young University, finds gay couples lack a constitutional right to marry is a rational basis for the government to preclude couples who can’t bear children from marrying: “Human beings are created through the conjugation of one man and one woman. The percentage of human beings conceived through non-trad

Right there with you, Once More. I wondered the same thing myself in this thread: http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,705286 LOL @Jesus Smith and Anonomer! It's terrible, but the comments are hilarious ;)

Re: "Obedience is neither moral nor immoral. It is amoral. Obedience does not consider if what it is following is right or wrong - it just follows." Amen, and Amen, bc! I've thought that myself numerous times. And the Cult CONSTANTLY harps on obedience. As you said, practically every talk, every important aspect of involvement with TSCC comes back, in some way or other, to obedience. I

On the exact same day that the boy scout perversion files were released: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2012/10/boy-scouts-perversion-files-released-the-secrets-are-out.html this article is featured in the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/18/us/mormons-and-scouts-act-as-partners-in-molding-boys.html?pagewanted=all "As partners, Mormons and Scouts Turn Boys Into Men"

Ech. Not for me thanks. It made me wonder though, if it'll be promoted for the youth as well. Two of my kids are on FB; the oldest is a young adult, the middle one in HS. I don't know what sort of age limits they have, but I could easily see this being promoted as a way to keep the young 'uns inside the bubble and away from "the external pressures and influences that typify other social me

Just noticed this article today: http://www.politicususa.com/pretty-mormon-girl-evidence-gop-voter-fraud-colorado-springs.html It doesn't look like anyone else has posted it already, so I'll go ahead. They also included the close-up of her CTR ring, and mention Williams. I don't know if any RfMers commented on the article, but it looks like folks are pretty much already aware of LD$ Inc's pr

Awesome news Forestpal!! I participated in one of those lame-ass white hanky-waving cult demonstrations. I wish I'd figured out at that point that it was all BS and walked out like your friends did. Congratulations and best wishes to the family :D

These are all good points. David, if there is anything that would negatively impact your situation, and/or violate privacy laws, as somebody pointed out, then no, I'm not going to touch it. As you said, this isn't about Mr. Pratt; that's a whole different kettle of fish. Having said that, the video is deeply disturbing, at the very least, and germane to the Romney/priesthood issue, especially

Folks, looky here a minute!! I was reading the article in the Orlando Sentinel, http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2012-09-21/features/os-mormon-mitt-romney-excommunication-20120921_1_excommunication-mitt-romney-disciplinary-council and Allan Pratt, named as "regional church leader" in central Florida, rang a bell. Would this Allan Pratt by any chance be the same asshole that reame

"Follow your gut and ask about it." Thanks Moira, that's EXACTLY what I intend to do. And thanks for all the comments everyone. I did some more research online and BINGO: found the agency that sponsors foreign exchange students at this high school. I just read an article about another German student who came to the same community and stayed with a host family (NOT Mormon) who had a

That's helpful to know flo, I appreciate the insight. I'm not the sort of person to stick their nose in other people's business, but knowing the Mormon religion very well, attending Mormon services/activities has a lot more strings attached than most other church participation. At what point does it cross the line from say, 'reasonable' activity to immersion? When my son mentioned that David (t

I went to her site when it was first pointed out to me, and I read her story. Of course, I found her courage and struggle very inspiring, and wish her, now as then, the very best. Having said that, I'm with everyone else, the tone of the blog and the advertising stuff is just a turnoff.

*sigh* That's what I was afraid of. I don't know what agency sponsored the students; I suppose the high school would know, but I don't know that they would discuss that kind of information with me. I'll try to do some more research into it and see what I can find out

Okay, here's the deal. My two boys go to school in their dad's area, better school system. And they go to their dad & stepmom's ward (I resigned and am no longer a member). My older son was telling me that 2 German kids at his high school have been going to church, including youth activities, and one of them is also going to seminary. Both kids, a boy and girl, are staying with Mormon fam

It was great to see some familiar faces from last year, and to meet some new ones! I'm sorry I didn't get to chat with everyone, I was engrossed in conversation so much that I didn't mingle too much. I was mostly in the corner with Raptor Jesus and Anagrammy talking a mile a minute! As fun as it is to 'chat' with people on RfM, I have to say it's even more rewarding to see them in person. Utah,

Miracle of Forgiveness; Spencer W.K. was a real piece of work. One of the most f'ed up, deranged books ever to find its way out of the looney bin. Even better, I was given the book to read by an utterly clueless bishop as "repentance" while I was under disfellowshipment for having been in a relationship with a man I wasn't married to. Dumped the f'ed up book, dumped the f'ed up man,

Glad you came up with a solution that worked for today! I know that sick feeling of not wanting to be there, and/or not wanting to deal with a lesson you know you can't personally condone. I'm officially ex-Mormon, but went back there for my son's priesthood ordination last Sunday; I couldn't make it through "Grief Society" anymore. It's literally torture to me, and while most of the wo
