For most Mormons the top rung of their entire Mormon existence (since most never get the 2nd anointing) is the secret password to get into heaven.

They spend much of their life maturing and preparing to receive this.

They go back to the temple over and over to renew this and to get it by proxy for others.

They give 10% of their income to the church and do many other things to be worthy.

They promise everything they have to the church and even promise to die for the church if required to receive this.

And what do they get for all of this? A silly little poem:

Health in the navel marrow in the bones,
Strength in the loins and in the sinews,
Power in the Priesthood be upon me and upon my posterity through all generations of time and throughout all eternity.

That's it!

That's the top spiritual experience of Mormonism! Your whole life of unlimited sacrifice to the church, for that.

How silly.
How trite.
How hollow.
How sad.

I hear that was more fun when, on occasion, it was the 6 points of fellowship.

BC, your absolutely correct about the top rung! But thats only the top rung here on earth. Those 36 words open the door to the celestial kingdom which is the end goal for Mormons.

I liken those 36 words to describing the string that holds the dangling carrot.

The carrot is the celestial kingdom. Something you live your life chasing after in Mormonism.

Once you realize the carrot doesn't exist, life becomes anything you make of it.

That's the beauty of the journey out. Your free* to become who you want to become.

*At a price to be determined by family, friends, and loved ones who may not agree.

If you are a woman that is one AWESOME carrot.

1) You get to share a man with maybe 1,000 other women so you can spread you legs once in a while and make another spirit baby.

2) Odds are you weren't a perfect enough mother and at least one of your kids didn't get to the CK so you get to mourn that for all of eternity.

Yay.
