So I'm reading through Rough Stone Rolling, and I love the contradictions.
After describing the famous event where JS has a section of his leg bone removed, the author states:
"To the end of his life he was slightly lame"
Later, when recounting an event where JS was attacked while relocating the plates we read:
"Joseph knocked the man down and ran off at full speed, still with the heavy plates under his arm."
Even if the plates only weighed the 40-50 lbs the author claims, JS was supposedly slightly lame at the time.
Even without a missing bit of leg, how many people could outrun pursuers on uneven ground carrying 40-50 lbs? And with a permanent crippling injury it would be downright impossible.
Sometimes I think Richard Bushman must be a closet apostate, dropping hints with plausible deniability.
