New here so I thought I might learn more about the non religious aspects of exmormons.

I love to fly fish. Living in Eastern Idaho puts me at near ground zero for fly fishing at it's finest, at least in the USA lower 48. I also am into photography though I have handed much of my equipmet over to my 16 year old daughter. All of my equipment is older film stuff. She also has a couple of digital cameras too. She likes it.

I used to be an avid hunter but not so much anymore. Oh, I still go each year, not sure why. I guess, I have always considered myself somewhat of an agrarian anarchist/gourmet hunter gatherer so we try to put some wild meat in the freezer each year, if not, we buy local raised beef from the neighbor down the road. My wife and I love to grow a garden each year and go pick berries each fall. Both my wife and I have CCW permits and we pack side arms, but really only in the woods....this is Idaho. I would like to think I can walk among my fellow man unarmed. I carry a Glock 10mm and my wife packs a 41 mag revolver and she knows how to handle the beast too.

I have a few guns which I take target shooting and I used to even compete. Though I am pro gun, I think of myself as more liberal than conservative. I do not support pro gun organizations such as the NRA, who are really more Pro Capitolism than anything.

I am a Union member but don't think Unionism is for everyone nor every job.

As stated above, I think of myself as a liberal....but not really a democrat. In truth, I find I do not fit into any political party. I took a quiz once and found I was about as far from the demodratic party as I was from the republican party or tea party for that matter. Probably I was closer to the Green party than everything...if they would just not attack guns so much. I find myself having a hard time voting though I do every time. Probably I am more of a anti authoritarian left leaning libertarian/anarchist hippie than anything. I hate socialism as much as I hate capitolism but it seems those are my two choices these days.

Didn't mean to get into politics and hope this thread can be civil.

I love many kinds of music. I have been a bit of a 'metalhead' all my life but I like to tie trout flies listening to classical or perhaps some mild aternative. I like new metal even better than the old metal I grew up with like Black Sabbath. I never will grow up I guess.

I'm very curious and would rather read than talk to anyone. I love books.

I like pottery although I'm not very good at it.

My interests include how animals are treated and science literacy in education.

Ask me tomorrow and I will have a different list of hobbies and interests. :-)

I also don't fit into the political categories exactly. I tend to be a social liberal ---to a point. I have a pendulum view on supporting government or corporation. I basically end up voting against whatever scares me the most.

My first love is reading. In my childhood it was my escape. And then I read Anne Frank's diary and there was no turning back. I was hooked on writing.

I used to have a website about journal-writing... NOT LDS-type journal-writing, but real journal-writing. I keep thinking I'll revive it but I never get around to it... life gets in the way. Then my self-esteem jumps in and says, "No one cares what you have to say anyway."

Not getting into politics but I've gotten to hate tea because of the name some people have taken....

One of the joys of being an exmo is that we have so much more time and money to spend on hobbies. My weekends and spare time are now spent practicing music (piano and voice), in choir rehearsals or performances, sailing, hiking, kayaking, going to museums or just hanging out on the window seat in my living room, people-watching out the window and thinking about life.

My politics were always more liberal, only now I don't feel guilty about them like I did during my TBM days.

My interests and hobbies have followed a wide variety of choices over the years. I've been involved in dozens of activities.

The last large project was making; "Go Green Bags" out of material that I collected, or bought. I made over 300 of them before I hurt my hand and had to stop. (I hope to pick up that project again as I have drawers of fabric.)

I also re-purpose glassware into tiered serving dishes.

Now that I am a single, widow, (with some health conditions) I am limited in what I can do, so I choose what gives me the most enjoyment and accomplishment.

I'm still able to enjoy garage/yard sales a couple of days a week.

Currently, I am using my collection of items (mostly from yard sales), to make Greeting Cards. I call it my Grief Therapy. I've made about 175, and have enough supplies to make about 100 more!
So far, they are a hit!
They make a nice gift also. So I am sharing them!

Singing, writing, traveling, reading, horses (though I gave them up years ago), cooking. I still do a lot of writing and singing, though.

Reading. LOVE it. And I love used books. There's something sensual about reading a book someone else has. I love to smell the pages too.

Baking. Now that the weather is cooling down its time to turn the oven on again.

Making jewelry.

Exercise- most recently running. I also teach pilates twice a week. It makes me feel stronger when I sink myself into a workout.

And all of the above I enjoyed while in mormonism. But now when I read I don't have a filter or wonder what's appropriate.

I also love the smell of used books. A couple of years ago I went to the doctor because of a sinus infection that I couldn't get rid of. We did some allergy tests--and my 'biggest' allergen is the mold that grows on old paper. So, all my old, used books have been moved to the dining room, and I have had to get rid of most of them. Ahhhh, the smell of a good old book.

I love to explore and interact with the natural world, whether that involves hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, camping, 'shroom hunting, or simply taking scenic drives or hanging out in nice places.

I like road trips to most any natural place (though I'd rather go somewhere nice and quiet than a crazy tourist attraction like Yellowstone Park).

I'm not much of a fan of formal education, but I do like learning when it doesn't involve intense study.

Definitely reading. I have so many books that I joke if there is an emergency, I'll have to learn to eat paper - even at my most TBM I had more books than food storage.

I'm also learning to play the guitar, have an herb garden, love to sail and do most water sports. Except water ski. I can water ski - I just think it's boring. I also like to knit but I'm not that good at it. I can only knit a couple of things well.

I love books. I like to read a good novel and then let the subject of the novel lead me to non fiction about the same subject or place or time.

dcgsage, you opened with the fact that you fly fish. My father and his brothers were fly fishermen. One brother lived right on the Provo river year round. I tried it a little when I was young. It was okay, but to be honest, I'm not the outdoors type. What I did love was tying flies. I would like to get back into doing that, but I'd need to take a class. I don't think I could tell a royal coachman from a mosquito at this point.

Before I sold my house and moved to a smaller space I did a little woodworking. I built a hall tree and faux fireplace.

I like to create things, but I'm trying to keep things simple, so I just enjoy looking at the crafty creations of other people.

Lately I've done some upholstery and some window treatments for friends. I love decorating projects, but I have to do those projects for other people. My small space is finished.

Gardening, raising tropical plants, reading, painting, woodworking, and am interested in anything science related.

I have a couple of books on how to make ships in bottles. I would love to find time to do this. Perhaps this winter I will give this a try.

Is there a correlation between love of learning/reading and being here?

I like to read. I like history, especially old journals.

I am supposedly the coolest grandpa ever because I like video games.

I love reading and writing. I do both a LOT. I alwayshave a book, academic paper or magazine in my hands. I write both professionally (academically) and for pleasure and therapy.

I love to sew and do handicrafts and I make and restore dolls.

I love decorating my little home and always have some project on the go to make it look lovely. I am a real nester.

I love to sing and ballroom dancing was a passion for years. I don't do much now, as I am single and it is one activity that requires a partner unfortunately or you end up dancing with the WORST dancers all evening. Heh heh!

I LOVE to spend time with friends and family and talk and listen. It is wonderful.

Egyptology.

Comes in handy when discussing BOA with TBMs. When you can pick
up THEIR scriptures and point to the very glyphs in facsimile 3
that show it's not what JS says it was, what can they do?

Knit, crochet, sew. Also love kick boxing and UFC and boxing. If I could I would craft all day every day. I'm lucky to get in 2 hours a week because working and stuff I have to do. I seriously think if someone said I had a choice between my husband and knitting I would pick knitting (at this point).

Reading and writing short stories. I'm working on a piece right now that is very much on topic. It'll likely take me weeks to complete it. I hope to share it here.
