I bet many people have gone through the temple the first time with a friend or family member. If that is the case, don't they realize that they know each other's sacred new names? Isn't that a no-no? LOL

If I can't remember my own new name, I doubt the old genlteman behind the curtain does either:)

Good news! If you remember the date that you went, you can look it up...

OMGh, I never thought of that. Boy, you could REALLY use that info to manipulate someone in the future!!

If guy came to me and said it was revealed to him that I should do such and such and it's from Gawd because the Holy Ghost testified to them that my new name was Nephi! I'd be FREAKING OUT as a brainwashed believer!

That's truly scary!

BTW, Nephi isn't my real new name...I promise. Haha...you'll never really know! Wait, unless you went through the temple with me in 1992. Freak! Some boner knows my new name. What if they die before me and they use my special name to get into heaven?? I don't like the dark. eeks. :(

My domineering parents got a high off of this. My dad was the "escort" for each of his boys, so he knew each of our secrets. It was a power thing.

I was really disappointed in the new names. I thought for sure that the new name would be something that you would not hear any place else. Like some godly language or something. I thought you would learn mysteries in the temple. Instead I learned god made bears and it wasn't even him that did it. Oh I guess I did learn something. god doesn't really do anything. Kinda like how my boss doesn't do anything.

LOL. I did too. I thought it would be really hard to remember because it would be some weird thing like Nomromica Besterjester or something. All I knew was that I would get one and I had to remember it. I thought they were all individual names and each was in the Adamic language.

When I got "Deborah," I thought, "wow, that shouldn't be hard to remember. The Lard must know I was worried about remembering it so he gave me something easy." I never thought to consider how the temple worker knew which name to give or whether that name had ever been given to anyone else. I thought God was whispering it right in her ear. What a let down to know I was just one of thousands of Deborahs.

I thought the same thing--that it would be some special name my Godly parents came up with for me. Lucy?!?!? I didn't know until I got to this board that they recycle names. Why didn't they give us numbers? Makes more sense.

Yeah, my dad, brother, and uncle all went through with me, so they all learned my "secret" name. Although, I didn't realize that everyone gets the same name until several years later, so maybe they didn't realize either. I'm not sure how well known that is among TBMs.

Actually, it appears mine was only used for one period and probably only once a year. TSCC can probably figure out who some of us are by our temple names - like mine I give in my bio.

My husband wanted to name our daughter after my temple name -- not because he loved the name but because he thought it would be a "speshul" way to honor God... and to help me remember it, lol. Thank Thor I vetoed that idea!

I've heard that there are two names of each gender each day- one for people going through for themselves, and one for proxy names. Can anyone verify or dispute this?

I know that if your real name happens to be the name of the day you get Adam or Eve, gender depending.

See the Temple Name Oracle! (link below) Several people have been providing their temple names and the dates they got them, the guy running the site built a database, did some analysis and the website is the result, to the point that at the top of the page he posts what names are being given out each day.

If you know the date that someone went through the temple, or if they are planning a trip for that day, you can play with them a bit by calling them by that name.

http://www.fullerconsideration.com/templenameoracle.php

In answer to your question about two names, one for proxies and one for personal work, the answer is a pretty definite no, everyone gets the same name, regardless of whether or not you are doing it for yourself or for someone who's dead... So, when I went through and got the name Gideon, my Dad, who was with me doing the work for proxy, also used the same name for whomever he was proxied for. So, whether he realizes it or not, he knows my secret name, if he remembered it...

My husband wanted to suggest to his tbm son to name their new baby the same as sons temple name. He resisted the urge, but so badly wanted to bend his mind a bit.

Because of the oaths not to reveal anything, I promptly forgot my name - so I had to ask a the temple president on a later occasion. Then I managed to remember it. Was going to give it to our next son but our last four were all girls. While I was getting the name again, I inquired to the TP about wearing garments: re my wife as to whether it had to be over or under a bra, and whether anything could be worn under in case of medical reasons (I always getting a rash from the garmies). LOL. BTW: I can therefore say with authority that bras can be worn under, and anything can be worn under for medical reasons. I took this to mean comfort as a medical reason.

BTW, my TN was Stephen.

My sister and I went through together and immediately afterward told each other our names. We were both shocked that they would give everyone the same one.

I checked the oracle and the name listed is not the same one I remember. I wonder which is right?

I was told after my first time through that there were 2 names each day: one for those going through for themselves and another for proxy. My sis in law was a temple worker at the time she told me this so maybe they changed things? IDK but either way I felt cheated when I found out my "new name" was not chosen especially for me and unique. I actually rather liked my name "Naomi" until I found out the truth about the names. Just another way to make me feel "less than special" something tscc is so good at.

Nimrod
Nimrod, king of Shinar, was, according to the Book of Genesis and Books of Chronicles, the son of Cush and great-grandson of Noah. He is depicted in the Tanakh as a man of power in the earth, and a mighty hunter. Wikipedia
