The sad thing is that all of this was probably a matter strictly between her and her God.
It's a shame that the entire world had to be brought into it. Making her re-live it before a bunch of men. Branding her in front of her ward. Her feeling she had to inform the entire world through the Internet. The whole thing is abusive from others, and self-abusive within her.
There were dozens of other ways this could have been handled well, but the church chose to make an example of her -- all at her expense. Obviously, in these matters, the Mormon Church is shame oriented rather than solution oriented.
