Just so you don't have to be the ONLY one to be attacked, but I won't come back to post.
For one, my dog is not "fixed"--he is 14 and he has never impregnated any other dog as he is never let loose and never around female dogs. My last dog became obese after he was fixed.
What people don't always understand--I had a stray cat in my garage (my cat lived there, too). I decided to do the right thing and have it fixed. She had pneumonia and was still not very old, so I went ahead (as a single poor mother) and treated her, but by the time she was no longer ill, she was pregnant. I didn't know you could have them fixed then. She had the babies. I waited for them to be weaned. She was then pregnant again. Even the best intentions can come back to bite you. I wish it was so simple as "why didn't you get your dog spayed."
I also had another stray show up last year. She kept getting in the house and would cry at the back door. I finally took her to the humane society. The people there said she had kittens. They were in my basement and I HAD NO CLUE they were even there. What did she do--tell them to be quiet or that lady upstairs would throw them out? (I leave the sliding glass door open in the summer for my dog to go in and out--I have a completely fenced back yard--so she could get in and out easily.)
Anyway--I also won't put my dog under ansthesia at his age. They said he might die, but that he needs this and this and this . . . We have to make the decisions the best we can.
