I've found success with polite but firm discourse. I had an encounter with the missionaries a little more than a month ago, and I think it went pretty well. I wrote about it for RfM:
http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,1068609That being said, with the missionary program straining under the weight of so many young elders and sisters, harassing less-actives seems like the kind of tedious busywork that will keep the kids from misbehaving as a result of intolerable boredom. So they may come back even if you reject them to their faces.
It appears that you're trying to avoid confrontation. Unfortunately, Mormonism doesn't espouse a respect for privacy, and I foresee them coming back over and over and over again until you bat them on the nose with a rolled up newspaper and explain to them that what they're doing is wrong and unwelcome.
