The Constitution will hang by a thread . . .

With all the debate going on over at KSL under the articles on same sex marriage, it’s amazing that Mormons really think they are going to step forward and save the US Constitution from being destroyed. But by reading all the comments, Mormons don’t have a beginning understanding of what the Constitution says.

Their arguments are weak in the face of the First Amendment and the Fourteenth Amendment.

I’m not sure how the “boys of the Rocky Mountains will rush in and save the Constitution when it hangs by a thread”. Or whatever.

Maybe they will be led by their new prophet, seer, and duck-caller, even "Punxsutawney" Phil Robertson.

Well, they have short memories and are adept at dumping uncomfortable teachings down the memory hole.

They only remember the small things that support their predictions, and ignore all the big losses.

Next fad for Mormons who follow Duck Phil: camouflage garmies and ratty looking beards (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Camouflage garments already exist. Military members can obtain them. Or at least they could in the recent past.

They're not camo. They're non-white, but coloured to military specifications. Nobody in the U.S. armed forces is issued camo underwear.

If you're down to your mil-spec non-white underwear, things are in a pinch.

Reason has a hard time co-existing in the brain with hate and bigotry.

They would have to resurrect temporal polygamy. He could be talked over to LDS inc. with some bulk vaginas.

Silly people the Constitution is written on dried animal skin not a piece of cloth.

I think the Utah constitution is hanging by a condom, not a thread.

In addition Mormons have this goofy idea that Jesus helped write the constitution. 'Cause everyone knows Jesus really founded America.

Jesus Himself actually gave us the constitution. No seriously, I saw it in a painting at the mall!

The constitution was made of cannabis leaves, wasn't it?

Actually it is printed on parchment. Parchment is a fancy term, for animal skin. Basically, when an animal is skinned, you get a couple different layers. The thickest layer is leather, and then the thin layer on top of that is the parchment. This has the boils (nearly all herd animals have boils) removed from it by draining, and is then stretched. It is extremely tough, lasts a very long time, and holds ink very well, as any tattoo will testify to. When they wrote important documents, they wrote them on parchment.

The whole written on hemp thing is a myth that gets passed around. Basically, you shouldn't believe everything potheads tell you while passing a joint around a circle. It's one of those things that doesn't really matter one way or another on the whole subject of legalization, but if you or anyone else is pro-legalization, citing it in support of your cause only weakens your case, as it is easily disproved, and makes your argument seem unreliable.

Pagag - wasn't that DUCK FUCK Phil on Deliverance? He sure looks like he could have been. I guess he hasn't read the old proverb "cleanliness is next to Godliness."

He's following all the old prophets, Abraham, Isaac, Moses et al. He's gone beyond Jesus with his beard length and biases.

funny how they think the constitution is hanging by a thread, because they sure do want to ignore certain parts of it. Typical.

for quite a while now. It is praised and venerated sort of like the golden plates, but what it actually says is pretty much ignored.

I'd go on, but I wouldn't want this to degenerate into a political post.

In Utah, the "Constitution hanging by a thread" trope is frequently invoked by ultra-conservative, conspiracy-minded TBMs. They use it as an alarm bell whenever any issues come up that threaten their mindsets: marriage equality, wage equality for women, subsidized daycare, any kind of assistance for the poor, affordable housing, recycling, and on and on.

To them, "the Constitution" represents whatever particular flavor of rabidly conservative ideology they embrace, and anything outside those bounds will destroy it.

Trouble is, nobody can explain exactly what the "hanging by a thread" part means, particularly in reference to any specific article or amendment.

It's highly annoying to try to have a rational discussion with the Constitutional alarmists, because most of them haven't even read the entire document, much less anything about its history.

Stupid horse prophecy believers. Don't they know this is a false prophecy. Yet, they continue believing in a tiny hope of possibility.

Yeah, well... It was supposed to be Mitt Romney, I suppose. It's worse than the normal Mormon arrogance for them to think they could have any part in it.

Wait, maybe Smith really was a prophet. The constitution is hanging by a thread, being threatened by religious radicals, and by providing the losing side of the supreme court case that finally settles the whole gay marriage debate, Mormons are in fact lending an important hand unto saving it. Although, probably not in the way they imagined.

"Hanging buy a thread." I usually gag and laugh when I hear this. Mormons spout it ad nausieum here in Zion. (Utah). If anybody out there has been following Utah press latley you would be aware of our state Atourney General office. It is essentially a pay window to transfer money to Mormon politicians in D.C. at the same time collecting a little for them selves. This is not a political statement. The Mormon church has no I repeat no respect for the Constitution of this country. These people, the Mormons, won't be saving anything especially the constitution.

It's a good time to pause and remember that, to Mormons, "hanging by a thread" would mean a diverse number of insults to Mormons. Like having a mixed-race man of color for president, and having gay marriage in the land. Or even recognizing the LGBT crowd and protecting them under the constitution. All that is severely insulting stuff to Mormons, and therefore things are "hanging by a thread." It is (as are so many things Mormon) unadulterated Shiz.

Tommie Monson has a great chance turning transgender than the lame white horse prophecy coming true. I hope the gays can continue to marry in UT and give the finger to the bought off politicians in the state by the Mormon church.

Take prop.8,UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Nobody bother to check with Christ before spending all the millions on it. Inspiration? Not likely. The have it on church's lips but deny the power thereof.
