Many of you know about my grandpa and how up and down his health has been the last two years, I've posted about it here before.

He passed away this morning. I am numb. No tears came as I comforted my crying mom. Just the words of the poem I wrote for him when he was given last rights about a week ago.

I'd like to share it with you all.

As life fades away further into the great cosmic universe,
It joins the beautiful symphony of energy in perfect harmony.
We are all one of the same cosmic consciousness,
Our journey continues on in the wind, through the trees, into the world.
We live on in those who love us,
those we touched with our brief burst of light.
We are all but a flash in the darkness,
Yet each and every flash is meaningful, is worth knowing.
We can pass peacefully knowing that we have lived a life worth living,
Mistakes, regrets these will all fade away.
But the memories others keep,
These will last forever.

I will miss him so much.

Oh, Fidget, I'm sorry. My grandparents were a set of second parents for me, and when I became an adult, they became two of my dearest friends. My grandpa has been gone 22 years, my grandmother for 12. I was lucky to have them for so long! I am 54, and I think of them both every day.

Enjoy your memories--and I don't know what your beliefs are in an afterlife, but if you do believe (I do), you know you have your grandfather to greet you there someday.

Fidget,
I am so sorry to hear of your grandfather's passing. The words of your poem show the great love and respect you have for him and brought to mind some of the lyrics from "The Garden" by Rush: "The treasure of a life is a measure of love and respect, the way you live, the gifts that you give." The wonderful memories you have of him will be the most precious "treasure" you will ever have.

Such a terrible loss, the loss of your beloved grandfather. I still miss mine every day, but time heals and you will have wonderful memories to take the place of the pain and grief you are now experiencing. He lives on in all the amazing things he taught you and in the way you treat others, and in the way you move through the world.

Be gentle with yourself during this time of grief. Grief is draining, heavy, exhausting. Some find the need to cocoon for awhile and that's ok. Be gentle and compassionate with yourself.
You will find that you need more rest, more sleep, more comfort. Give that to yourself. Your grandfather would, I'm sure, want you to take good care of yourself. Allow yourself to be nurtured and loved. Let people be there for you.

Books on grieving and loss might be very helpful and support you in this process. You wrote such a loving tribute to your grandfather in your beautiful poem! Take good care Fidget! Sending you comfort, and big hugs from this MexMom.

I'm so sorry. When you are ready, go get some ice cream. You and he are both fortunate to have been in each others' lives.

I've always liked this quote from Tolstoy:

"Only people who are capable of loving strongly can also suffer great sorrow, but this same necessity of loving serves to counteract their grief and heals them"

Peace to you.

Thank you all for the kind words. My grandpa was an amazing person. Adventure and ice cream will always remind me of him. His laugh was the best in the world. You knew he loved you just by how be looked at you.

Heart you

The majority of you are faceless monikers scattered across the globe, but your words and kindness mean so much. I finally started crying(and I'm ashamed to admit drinking about an hour ago. His last words to me over the phone echo in my thoughts.
