In regards to Anonman's post about his stepson in a previous thread, Id like to clarify that I am nothing along the lines of your step-son at all.

1. I never drink alchohol
2. Drugs are unthinkable for me.
3. Im very wary of the law and am likely the least arrestable person in my house.

(And also the spyware software he installed has TERRIBLE reviews for slowing computer performance and even installed other rouge softwares such as adware programs in an attempt to further maximize profit margins)

My parents have opened all my emails before when they had access to my account, and they go through my journals all the time. (Sometimes I have to go to their room to find them), and they already have filters on the router and cell phones.

I just wanted to clarify that. I definitely DO believe that there are children who completely lack responsibility and need strong parental guidance until they can fully develop the attribute.

The reason my parents are so weary of my online activities is because they believe that Ive looked at anti-mormon literature that has led me to loosing my testimony. Other than that I am a nearly perfect son and other families are happy to have me over any time. I actually feel closer to one of the families than I do mine. Thats the biggest shame I feel. My own parents illusioned perspective on what it takes to truly be happy (I.e - going to church every sunday) has blinded then to all the good in me. All they see is that I dont go to church, and that apparently makes me a wayward son.

Ironically, I only looked at anti-Mormon literature and visited this site after being out of the church for 2 years.

I lost my testimony because Im a psychology buff and I understand very well how feelings can impact a persons beliefs. A testimony is simply a set of emotional experiences that serve to convince one that the church is true.

Its just a feeling though. You can have a feeling about the Flying Spagetti Monster, but it doesnt make it real.

Anyways, Im working on college papers and saving up money again seeing what I can do about moving out. Ive also changed all my passwords and will be installing a bios password just for safe measure. Thanks for all the support offered. It is truly appreciated!

You can't reason with overbearing personalities, in or out of the Mormon church.
Unless something drastic happens to shake up their rigid structure, such people rarely change.

Your best bet is to create your own life and surround yourself with people who care and value the authentic YOU.

Breaking away from parents is part of the maturing process,I think you will do fine.

Your parents are overbearing. I would save up funds to move out. If you live with 2-3 other people expenses can be very manageable. I did it for years. Look in the newspaper, Craigslist, or your college bulletin board under "roommates wanted." You will probably want to have $1,200-$1,500 saved at a minimum for rent, security, and other deposits.

I am blown away by how controlling some parents are. It sounds like they are trying to force their kids out of the house as soon as possible. I guess my parents are just weird because they seem to like having me around and they are glad they can help me save money and get on a sound financial footing for my future.

I still don't think it is at all a reasonable demand to have monitoring on your computer. The excuses for why this make sense on the other thread sounded paranoid to me. When I lived with a roommate I never even considered that he might be looking at child porn and we might both end up in handcuffs until they could determine who was looking at it. Yeah I guess there is a small chance that could happen but I'm not going to spend my life worrying about terrible things that there is a small chance of happening.

this was Not in utah idaho or arizona. it was the working parent not the young adult offender who had a job to lose, had their address in the paper, had their work suoervisor called in, had their child custody brought to court, came home tired from a long day at work hungry a diebetic needing food and insulin- to see and experience this nightmare scene with law enforcement officers in her house yard driveway her sons and fiance handcuffed as computers were looked through by officers and district attorney with news cameras and news vans live broadcasting in the drivewway
because a young adult took advantage of yhe free food housing and computer services and she didnt comorehend assoviating with felons or getting investigated until cleared were legal issues caused by this

Child pornagraphy is a serious offence.

Either the kid completely lacks responsibility, OR he wasnt educated to the extent that he knew what kind of trouble it can cause.

Even if the parents put filters up, they can be bypassed. Even if the parents spy and keep track of all web traffic in their house, once the search queries are made the offence cannot be deleted.

In other words, people who are prone to dwelving into child pornagraphy shouldnt have access to internet at all, and especially not under your roof.

I know it sounds harsh, but I just cant trust people like that. I think anon and you have a valid reason to be strict given the circumstances and the hell you've been through having to deal with police searches and all of that.
