It is my understanding that not everyone does the washing and anointing part of the ceremony when going through for the dead. But isn't that the part where you learn the new name? So if you don't do W & A, how does the patron learn the new name?

After you get all dressed up in your whites in the temple locker room you get a dead persond ordinance card and a worker escorts you to a little room where he tells you the new name of the day. You get a check mark on the card and then head to the waiting room and wait for the rest of the assembly of white clad indoctrinees to wait for the lack of fun to begin.

Oh and if you forget the name at any point in the ceremony they can take you aside and whisper it to you. It's not to hard for em to remember since there is only one name per sex per day for the living and the dead pus an alternate for each sex in case one of the people getting indoctrinated has the same name as the name of the day.

If you go through 2 sessions for 2 different dead people in one day, do you have to go back to the new name ceremony?

I'm reading the transcript of the ceremony just for kicks. I know that they don't really encourage single ladies to go to the temple unless they are heading on a mission, but do single women just swear a generic oath to harken unto the husband they may have some day?

Single ladies make the same oaths as married women. The church remains officially silent on the issue that you speak of, as far as I am aware. Most TBM single ladies I know assume that thier oath is to thier presiding priesthood leader untill they are sealed in this life or the next.
