The author of the Meridian article, William Dargan, has a degree in Zoology and his wife is a microbiologist, according to his Meridian profile. He should have been able to comment on the latest DNA studies that date the most recent common ancestor, but he did not. He completely ignored DNA evidence. Could he have left out the DNA angle because it is an inconvenient truth? Scientist currently date the most recent common ancestor as living more than 200,000 years ago. This pretty much debunks all of the common beliefs, official and unofficial positions of the church, and personal opinions of GAs that he lists in the article. The fact that he leaves out important research discredits the claim of John Taylor that he quotes, "We are open to the truth of every kind."

I'm sure Creationists love this conclusion. That estimate comes from a mathematical model that uses Monte Carlo simulation and was not based on any study of DNA, rather merely on a genealogical approach. This 2004 study had to do with population sizes and mating patterns, but ignored the actual diversity of DNA that has now been sampled globally.
