They act like they are the ultimate psychologist, marriage counselor, etc. But, what did your bishop really do for a living?

My last one was a construction worker
One before that was a family history researcher.
before that, brick layer.

He was bish when I was age six to about fourteen when we moved out of Utah. That was my longest stint of going to the same ward with the same bish.

All of those professions certainly qualify those men for positions counseling people now don't they?

I wouldn't want a theologian or psychologist piloting the plane I'm on.

By the same token, I don't want a pilot counseling me about my marriage or my personal problems.

Such a bunch of hooey. And, TSCC brags about the fact that its pastors are lay people. Good grief.

The only one listed so far with any counselling experience is a high school guidance counselor, and even that could be dubious depending on training/licensure/degrees.

Wait..hold on. Mine was in CIA....I don't know what he did exactly..but maybe he is good at interrogating.

I didn't like that he used a lie detector for my TR interview.....

Yeah, I would be a bit scared to resign if I had a CIA bishop, might want to check all your lamp shades for bugs and make sure no one is tailing you as you run errands. He knows all your dirt, and if he doesn't see you on sunday there will be very telling videos hitting youtube.

Lawyer
Civil engineer
Business owner

I felt the lawyer had a holier than thou attitude. The engineer is a great guy, really down to earth. Really don't know the business owner but he hasn't bothered me any since he became bishop so I like him.

I must admit, this is something that slays me. A high school drop-out male gas pump jockey is considered better qualified to be a bishop than a woman with an M.Div.

I'm not saying that I see gas pump jockey in this list (I haven't read all the way through), but I sure as heck don't see an M.Div. either.
