If I tell you, Me or someone else will have to slit my throat. That's the rules. I'm not making that up.

However since i've announced my new name to the world a couple years ago nobody has showed up to do the deed, and I haven't had the urge to slit my own throat. I'm beginning to think they just made that stuff up.

You went through the temple on the 2nd day of a month?

I ask because according to the temple oracle name website people who went through on the 2nd have either the name, 'Jesse' for men, or 'Eunice' for women. My sister and I went thru on the same day (May 2nd '02) and I'm just wondering/looking for confirmation that her temple name is actually Eunice.

No, I went through on July 28,1988

Ah, looking at the temple name website, http://www.fullerconsideration.com/templenameoracle.php, it appears the LDS church changed the name rotation in 1992. That explains it, I suppose.

geezer498, reveling new names is liberating especially when you figure out that absolutely nothing cultish is going to happen to you when you do.

I think I blocked it all out. I'm not certain of the name but think it is Fanny. I don't recall the date. Weird, because I'm such a date fanatic otherwise.

OMG! They actually have the nerve to use the name Fanny!?? How insulting is that to Fanny Alger? If that were my temple name, i'd be telling every mo I know. I'd tell them all about Fanny Alger and her sad run in with Joe.

I have the boring name of Martha.

I really liked my name and felt so special, I thought it was just for me. When I found out everyone gets the same name on a given day, I was so let down. I think that may have been the first crack in the shelf.

So, speaking as one who never went to the temple after a rather hilarious dead dunking session involving a water fight when I was a teen, I never knew about "temple names" until I read about them on this site. My folks were regular temple attendees but never spoke a word about it. WTF is with being given a different name? The more I learn about my former church, the more I am amazed at how totally fucked up it is.

I've been through the temple several times and I don't know myself why you get a new temple name. Of course, none of that weirdo business in the temple makes any sense anyway so anybody's guess is good.
