I was thinking about it, and does the Mormon church go down as the biggest hoax in the history of the world?

I mean think about it, old JS got everyone believing in this fake book and it got built up into a multi-billion dollar business. Not only that, but each generation of 'profit' after the other have continued to perpetuate the hoax and all the members have participated in it...quite incredible. And I have a strong inkling that they have something buried away in the secret vaults that proves its a hoax, but somehow they've kept it so protected for this long that no whistle blowers have come forward.

So, has there been a bigger hoax in the history of the world than this?

I don't know as I would go that far. But, it sure as hell is one of the major ones.

Jesus born of a virgin and then being resurrected? I'd say that one is bigger.

I consider a hoax to be of malicious and deliberate intent, with purpose of fooling someone out of money or for shits and giggles.

I don't believe that is the origin of Christianity, though there are certainly periods in its history where that became extremely convenient.

I believe Christianity evolved organically, a collection of stories, not unlike the many stories of Robin Hood or King Arthur by different authors that gained a movement of popularity.

It eventually reached a critical mass and was then co-opted by the government, but it was never a hoax created by a fraudster or conman. Kolobianism on the other hand....

Mormonism is nowhere close to this.

I agree with hanger18 that Christianity is the biggest hoax of all time and Islam is a close second followed by all other religions.

Mormonism is one of the worst cults/hoaxes due to the mental illness it has caused and continues to cause. Not counting the financial fraud on its members.

As others have pointed out: Every false church is a hoax/fraud to some extent. By that, unless every religion with larger membership than Mormonism are somehow simultaneously true, no Mormonism isn't the biggest hoax.

It is a fraud, and quite successful at the con; but not uniquely or the grandest.

There are far more muslims than Christians in the world, so i would say the Koran is a bigger hoax than the New Testament or book of mormon.

And out of Christianity, half to two-thirds are catholic (where less than 1% are mormon)

Why are the biggest hoaxes always based on "having faith in things not seen?"

The best scam is to not let people see what they are buying. Seems incredible, but we have the whole Mormon church as proof that it works very well.

Yes, private central banking is the biggest hoax of all, and the banksters have been much more successful than mere Mo's in conditioning and indoctrinating "free citizens" to "believe" in their "credit religion". They've made slaves of most of the world, and most of the slaves praise them for it. Now that's some effective conditioning!
