Just curious, Don. I disowned disco beegees but really liked 60s BeeGees esp To Love Somebody.

Would they be acceptable if not allowed to sing Stayin Alive?

I like to give 'em a hard time, but they'd be acceptable. They could even sing Stayin' Alive as long as John Travolta strolls down a hallway as they sing.

In a Xenu costume with a gay man at his side.

That's the only way I'd agree to the song

Do a little googling. They are one of the biggest bands of all time. They are associated with disco, but how smart and talented are they to have been about the biggest act of that era? They have the longetivity of Aerosmith, kept reinventing themselves. Sadly only one of the brothers Gibb is still living.

How Deep Is Your Love, Too Much Heaven, If I Can't Have You, Emotion, Grease, and they wrote other hits for other artists. They did the Saturday Night Fever disco songs for their friend Robert Stigwood, who was producing the movie. Originally, the film was going to use songs by Stevie Wonder and Boz Scaggs, but they decided to capitalize on the disco craze instead, and that was an incredibly wise decision.

Don's other thread on this subject came and went before I had a chance to contribute. I saw two of my favorite bands named late in the thread. If these guys ain't in rock and roll heaven, I don't wanna go:

My wife and I saw Chicago last October. They perform this suite in full.

Right you are, randyj.
Myself, I'll take American Band and Old Days

...but I'm not as enamored with "Old Days." I prefer Chicago's earlier stuff. My favorite song of all time is "Beginnings." It was one of the biggest thrills of my life last October when I sat about 50 feet from Robert Lamm when he came out front with his guitar and sang it. I have the full 7-minute version on a karaoke track.

Anything from Chicago is great. I bet they are even
better live!

Here's a recent video of "I'm A Man":

The two percussion guys used to play with Carlos Santana.

And they end their show with "Free" and "25 or 6 to 4":

Agreed. And since Clapton was called god by his fans, he's a natural.

Bee Gees take a lot of flak, but they were good. I reserve my ridicule for Bread.

....but they were a soft-pop group, not rock and roll. Their hits used to be played on the same stations right along with the hard rockers. Just like James Taylor, Seals & Crofts, Lobo, Carole King, the Carpenters, etc. I do "Guitar Man" and "If" every now and then on karaoke.

I think maybe we need a soft rock and roll heaven. But that would probably capture the Bee Gees.

BeeGees esp To Love Somebody.

The BeeGees were wonderful musicians, the best of the 'blue-eyed soul' crowd, hands down (and I love Van Morrison). They may not belong in donbagley's pantheon, given the kinds of bands he began with, but the BeeGees are certainly gods in Pop Heaven. And To Love Somebody, well, there's a song for the ages.

To Love Somebody has many excellent renditions, from Janis Joplin to the Animals, from Nina Simone and Roberta Flack to Bonnie Tyler to (gasp) Michael Bolton, each with their own unique emotional resonance. I'm especially fond of Nina Simone's short but sweet take on the song.

My favourite rendition of To Love Somebody, by far, is Blue Rodeo's:

The song is great, and the renditions are all wonderful, but Blue Rodeo's resonates the fullest for me. If you don't know Blue Rodeo, do so. They're big in their native Canada and should be everywhere.
