How did church officials find out about the one woman who was posting online anonymously? That's the one that has me scratching my head. Did she give out too many clues as to her identity?
A poster recently asked the advantage of resigning verses just becoming inactive. After reading this, I'm damn glad I resigned. I can say what the hell I want, and the bastards can't touch me.
I appreciate your posting this article from the Salt Lake Tribune. I found it informative and telling that the cult is taking this action of shooting themselves in the foot, or somewhere else.
Just think--if you were in charge of a group...would you really just embarrass and boot out loyal members right and left??? Not too smart, in my book.
What I remember are several posts regarding LDS, Inc. coming out with software that, it was supposed, could track users' whereabouts on the internet. If true, it seems like there would be many more excommunicants.

The quote from the church spokesman is so ironically delicious..."the church has to protect the integrity of its doctrine as well as other members from being misled.". Hahaha!!

That is,"the church has to exert thought control."

They use this "protect the integrity of the doctrine" excuse over and over. How is asking hard questions and petitioning for change hurting the "integrity of the doctrine?" If the big boys teach XYZ then that is, by definition, the DOCTRINE of the Church. Or is their doctrine so weak that it can have its "integrity" compromised by a few members questioning it.
I can see a rogue GA being demoted from his GA position because in his official capacity as a GA he could be compromising the "integrity of the doctrine." But I don't see any way that a rank-and-file member can harm the "integrity of the doctrine."
What I suspect is happening here, is that the "doctrine" is so weak and unsupportable that the very fact of openly questioning things might bring other members to "think for themselves," and therefore disciplining those who question out loud is a way to control information and scare the rest of the "rank-and-file" into not "thinking for themselves."
If you use any other wifi (your home) they have the right to filter your transmissions before it hits the web. Companies, schools, universities, governments all do it.
I'd love to personally email all the bishops who are involved and tell them to leave everyone alone and mind their own GD business...and then sign my name and include my phone number in case the self important twits wanted to challenge me.
Very true...but I'm an exmo, publish my name on every post and my email address in listed in my personal info because I'm in the fortunate position of not caring who knows my views and fearing no one. Hope everyone can get to this point some day.

As an exmo... we're not bothered by the LDS Church. They have no authority to say a word to us. And that is exactly how I like it. I followed their ideas long enough.
At work each employee was given a thick binder of company rules and policies. Once a year, we had to go online read through a topic and electronically sign it. Each employee had a record showing which topics they had read through. We were informed about using company email. What you sent was not private and was company property. The company was covering its legal butt. Which was okay because everything was in writing and employees knew the rules.
I'm surprised the church hasn't been sued over its actions, and here's why. Nothing is given to members in writing stating exactly what the rules and policies are and what can get you excommunicated. As a convert, I was a single female. I didn't even know there was a priesthood manual (this was before the internet) let alone what was in it. Rules aren't official unless everyone knows what they are.
