Prop 8 fine

Am I the only one that didn't know the church was fined by the state of california for their contributions during the Prop 8 vote?

I had heard, but a fine of only 5000 dollars? G? For such a large church with so much cash & so many assets, that is less than an average individual page for tithing each year. So, the church does this illegal, immoral stuff and only one of its members pays for it? All of its members pay for it. Slap on the wrist!

The fine wasn't for giving the money. It was for not properly reporting the contributions.

The fine was in line with what other individuals and groups pay for similar violations.

Correct, it was not illegal for the morg to donate.

It was illegal to lie about how little they contributied, they did not remotely come close to reporting correctly.

My bro in law donated 500 bucks. You can go online and look at the names of people who donated. It's pathetic. He could have donated that to a charity or put it in his kids savings account, he's headed for BYU this year until they send him on a mission. Sad.

I look at it this way. It is his money to do with as he pleases. One doesn't have to agree with how money is spent.

We had a Mormon guy in Auburn, CA who donated all of his three sons' college savings to support prop 8. "They will thank me for it," he bragged.

Families that I grew up with in So. Orange Co. collectively donated over $300,000.

Had they given the money to me, they may have prevented one gay marriage.

As it stands, they got bupkis for their investment!
