There were some interesting visitors to RFM yesterday. One poster with whom I had a lot of interaction (before the post was removed) was a guy who claimed to have been excommunicated in the past who was returning to TSCC. His handle was “just an NOM” or something like that. He posted statements, and then edited those statements to remove things that he no longer wanted to defend. He said he didn’t sustain the BOA, said that the GAs were just men, but he also said “the church is true—no debate.”

I was frustrated with his unwillingness to own up to his own statements, but near the end of the thread, he said “if anyone want a rational discussion…” and he had an email address. Well, I emailed him twice, once yesterday and once today. Both times, I got a delivery failure notice do to “Remote host said: 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable.”

He was not only irritating and illogical, he was also a liar. What do people like that hope to accomplish here?

Mostly they want attention. My guess is that the reason he deleted parts of his post was not because he didn't want to defend some position he took, but because it would make people irate that he was doing it.

He was just seeking a childish amusement - rather like poking a stick down an anthill and sitting back to see what happens. And poking again as things die down.

If this was a TBM, I do think most of the ones I know think they can defend the church just by saying it is true. They find out quickly that more substance is required if you want to play in the RFM league.

I read their forum a lot, and have found them to be very reasonable and thoughtful posters.

I bet he was just a CoB employee newb trying to score brownie points with his priesthood superiors. Epic failure.

I'd take that bet.

what does NOM mean?

And for that matter, what does being church broke mean?

Thanks, I don't know all the sayings around here.

Name Only Mormon -as in, an inactive Mormon. Church broke= defeated by the church authority; one who submits unquestioningly.

Thought it was new order mormon. People here rely too heavily on acronyms.

You are correct.

That post above is not.

To Oaks's Bald Head: It's New Order Mormon. http://www.newordermormon.org/

"The middle way"? They ripped off Buddhism.

The poster was rather immature to say the least. When called on the issue of his alleged excommunication for "apostasy" it was interesting that he ran. He first said he did not believe in the BoM and then said he did in a followup post.

He said some lovely things to me. Among them something about me being molested as a child.

Pretty sure he's the same teenager troll that has been posting randomly the last week.

To the OP: people like that, they come here to poke us, to call us to repentance, to make us see the errors of our ways.
