What I find interesting about the photo is that it's Bush whose giving Monson the symbol with finger in the wrist. You can't see whether Monson is returning the favor because his fingers are out of view. I hardly doubt that he was.

To me it looks like Bush, being the opportunistic that he's always been, decided to give Monson the handshake to show him that he knows about the Mormon secret. Since he was a member of skull and bones and believes in all that inner circle stuff, he was opportunistically showing off, perhaps thinking he would win some kind of favor in Monson's eyes.

I think it is funny that the TBM posting about that picture don't realize that all those handshakes and penalties were stolen from the Masons. Not to mention that all that information is on the internet. The handshake may have been an accident or W just may have wanted to f*** with Tom.

Who knows, like GWB said, "People are always misunderestimating me".

Did you check out the Hinckley/Cheney clubhouse clutch?

Too weird for any rational earthly explanation. No Occam razor will suffice, any way ya slice.

Again, I think it's Bush and Cheney deliberately showing them that they know the symbols.

Cheney's wife comes from pioneer Mormons.

So what were you saying about staggered?

Anyhoo, I thought the last post on the shaken-faith TBM's thread was kinda cute...

Please, let's not make hints about what we keep sacred in the temple. Your questions could be answered better there."

We'll coitanly be happy to splain it to him when he shows up here, won't we?

I'm guessing he's 3.33 degrees away from getting over his fear of "anti".

Ya think?

It's fine with me. Sorta reminds me of the special knocks/passwords to get into the tree house. . . . . when we were kids! :-)

It is one of the boy scout (BSA) handshakes. As was the GBH one. A wee bit different from the temple version, but there are only so many ways to shake.

I think Bush, out of force of habit, gave Monson the Masonic handshake.

Methinks Occam may have at least pricked the matter, thanx Matt.

By that I mean....if you really think about it, W doesn't shake hands very often does he? Do you think some doofus at a campaign stop is gonna get the ancient and accepted sure sign of the nailed?

Come on people. Chime in.

Just remember no politics.

He probably figured that someone of Monson's age and standing would have to be a Mason.

I don't see what the big deal is when you can get EVERYTHING on YOUTUBE now. If Bush, or anyone wanted to find out anything about the Temple, all they would have to do is Google it.

My understanding is that the Masons didn't have the Sure Sign of the Nail, but instead had a similar grip called the Strong Grip of the Master Mason or the Lion's Paw. If that's true (can someone corroborate?), it couldn't be a Masonic grip.

I'm, uh, more easily persuaded that this is mere tinfoilerry, which you would expect to see running rampant at an LDS forum. I mean, I can show you pictures that show that 9/11 was an inside job or that the president is secretly a muslim...

Puh-leeze. Pretty much every fraternity has a secret handshake. Mine was very similar to one of the temple handshakes. There just aren't that many different ways to shake hands.

Besides, it could just be and awkward grab.

Did you catch that someone said skull and bones was satanic? Lol.

Dear TBMs, hopefully one of you will notice that having secret passwords and handshakes is JUST like a little kid's treehouse club. Makes ya feel all speshul, but in the real world it means nothing.

IF monson broke his temple vows does that mean he is going to be disembowled? It seems pointless to do that to someone who is so close to death anyway.
