On the heels Mormon feminist Kate Kelly’s recent excommunication for "conduct contrary to the laws and order" of the LDS Church, a new question has emerged:

Could former Utah Attorneys General John Swallow and Mark Shurtleff lose their Mormon memberships, too?

Doubt it. My bet is the church doesn't want to go anywhere near this thing.

One Thing is about 100%:

they prolly won't consult with VICTIMS; also:

they will Stay Clear until a court makes a determination (unless plea bargain)...

they're 'so powerful' they don't want church actions to 'interfere with justice' (LAUGH!)

What's really sad IMO is how one of them is probably in trouble because of the turmoil they've gone through while going from being a TBM to a closet exmo. I'm not going to say which one but I know that one of these 2 former AG's is in that boat right now. We all know what its like and what a tough journey it can be. That's why its important for those making this journey to have a good strong support system. When someone as high as the AG of Utah goes through that change its tough, feeling all alone with the world of Mormondom watching you as their chief prosecutor and defender of the Saints' state government's laws.

Money is on Shurtleff being the exmo. He's a cancer survivor who came out in favor of medicinal marijuana.

From Church Handbook of Instructions:

A disciplinary council must be held for a member who commits a serious transgression (as defined under "Serious Transgression While Holding a Prominent Church Position" on this page) that is widely known.

"Serious Transgression" is defined on that page as:

As used here, serious transgression is defined as a deliberate and
major offense against morality. It includes (but is not limited to) attempted murder, rape, forcible sexual abuse, spouse abuse, intentional serious physical injury of others, adultery, fornication, homosexual relations, deliberate abandonment of family responsibilities, robbery, burglary, theft, embezzlement, sale of illegal drugs, fraud, perjury, and false swearing.

...being convicted of a crime is prima facie evidence that can be used in a church court.

Funny, JS is guilty of at least half of these.

No. They'll be promoted. The committed a good fraud. Not a bad fraud. Their actions made money. It doesn't matter how in the Mormon church as long as you make money. They made money therefor they are good Mormons. And as long as they paid their ten percent they'll get promoted.

Interesting that one of the business men these guys are suspected of taking bribes from is the wealthy benefactor in the documentary, "Sons of Perdition," about the lost boys of the FLDS in southern Utah. In the film,Jeremy Johnson allowed some of the kids to stay in his home. Later, he donated a house for a non-profit aid group to use as transitional shelter for the kids. That group is also being investigated for a scheme to divert Americorps funds to help the kids get paying jobs. That scandal involves a suicide. Johnson has also been charged by the FTC of bilking millions of dollars from his internet business customers, which may have motivated some of the bribes.

There will be no excomm for these guys. As stated earlier this was a thoughtful, profitable, and republican fraud. This just means that something went wrong with their holy cultco style fraud while jeebus looked at a momentary distraction of starving and exploited children. Had jeebus not been unduly distracted this could have come to full cultco style fruition. But, alas it didn't. Just another UT fraud that occurs quarterly, but we only hear about every two years.

It really is a shame jeebus got distracted by those damn kids around the world, cause these two fine cultco. figures just don't deserve this. Perhaps jeebus will step up his efforts from here on out and get them off the hook so these two can be where they belong......in the cob running cultco companies.

If LD$ inc excommunicated every crooked politician in Utah, there'd be no bishops and stake presidents. In the Morridor, a prerequisite for politics is holding a visible church position and (if one us a male) being an Eagle Scout. With these two qualifications, the cult's voter block wouldn't get behind a candidate.

Mark and John represent the naive trust Morgs place in their church leaders becoming politicians.

The solution--term limits--vote all current politicians out of office!

They will likely be excommunicated if and when they are convicted of one or more felonies.
These guys are done, oh so done in more ways than one. Their careers are over!

My exhusband did 11 of the things that the CHI lists as excommunication offenses. He's still a member. The church likes to dish out the dirt to some, but not others.
