"Recovery from Mormonism" exmormon.org volume has doubled since Feb. of 2011. That may be a reason for some of our issues with crashing lately. We really spiked in December and continue to grow in volume. I looked at the data transferred per month and it was interesting to see the volume rise every month to where it doubled in a year. Hits are a bit misleading since most of you click on multiple items. Data transfer is what counts.

We are exploring options to find more stability.

Talk to Nom De Cypher - he could help you transfer to a system that can handle 100 times the volume you are - without the need for a shut down once a month. Just a suggestion

I know you don't ask for funds from site visitors, but maybe a voluntary donation box on the front page or periodic (think pbs fund drives) requests would help strengthen the infrastructure.

We will be asking. I am out personally $600 in the past two months. This is too expensive of a hobby.

I would like to raise $2500 which we would keep in a kitty at the ISP to pay expenses for the next year or so as we upgrade.

How about banning everything off topic, not just politics, until we upgrade?

The fact that the board usage has doubled is great evidence that you are providing an important and valuable service.

I think more than just a few folks who post or read here would be happy to make a contribution to help out this great website.

One idea would be to have the Exmormon foundation use their paypal mechanism to allow folks to contribute.
